Spencer's obituary

Spencer Brooks Murdoch : beloved son, brother, uncle, dog dad, best friend

December 31, 1996 - February 12, 2024

Spencer Brooks Murdoch,  27, most recently from Draper, UT, passed away suddenly on February 12th, 2024 after a tragic car accident involving him and his dog, Kida.

Spencer was born on December 31, 1996 to David and Barbara Murdoch in Texas. As a toddler, he loved things like blankets and swords, and everything but vegetables. He grew up in American Fork, UT with his two older sisters and two younger sisters and younger brother. Spencer was an active young man who loved wrestling, football, soccer, basketball, and video games, with Mario Kart quickly becoming a family favorite because of him.

Spencer learned to play the bagpipes while he and his family lived in Scotland, and he eventually played well enough to stand in the street and play for anyone in the town square. Through this, he earned enough money to buy a kilt, and joined the Utah Pipe Band upon his return to Utah.

After graduating from American Fork High School in 2015, Spencer went to Marine Boot Camp in California. While he missed his family dearly, he deeply loved his country and was excited to serve. He was a patriot at heart. His company was nicknamed Cobra Co.

Upon completing his military training, he attended Utah Valley University and graduated with a degree in Humanities and Social Science. At the time of his passing, Spencer was employed at a company he loved working for called SunRun as an Inside Sales Consultant. With his work friends, he would have movie nights at the theater every week, and with his Church friends, he would go on motorcycle rides as often as possible.

Always up for adventures, Spencer loved being outdoors and often went mountain biking. With his beloved dog, Kida, he enjoyed hiking and camping, and always spoke of getting her a seat so she could someday ride it with him. What a faithful companion she was to him.

Spencer was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and loved his Savior, Jesus Christ. Spencer knew that when He prayed, his father in Heaven was listening. Despite all of Spencer's hardships and heartbreaks, he always said he turned to the Lord. His favorite hymn for a long time has been, "How Firm a Foundation." He always tried to  build on that foundation, no matter how difficult the storms of life were for him.

Spencer is survived by his family: David and Barbara Murdoch, Amber and Jason Richards, Alissa and Braden Pittard, Amanda Murdoch, Melanie and Ben Riches, John Murdoch, Lucy Richards, Ally Richards, Emma Richards and Levi Riches.

Spencer was thoughtful and generous with his gifts and his time. You could always count on him to tell a joke or crack a smile when things weren't going so well. He was always down to watch a movie, go out to eat at Chick-fil-A, or spend time playing a good game. He was known for his kindness and perseverance, as well as his knowledge of Star Wars and firearms. We love him. We know God's plan. We know we will see him again. And. We really, really miss him.
