I was devastated to hear this news. Sorcha was a quiet star in my fifth grade classroom that year. I remember her so clearly and how much I valued every interaction. Her writing was the window through which I got to know her best. She was so thoughtful and put her heart into everything she did. I remember feeling anxious at the end of the year, wondering if I had done enough for her to prepare her for middle school. She was so proud of earning her white and blue monkey’s fists, those character-building challenges meaning all the more to me to see that they meant as much as they did to her. As a father of twin girls, and as a father of a child who has struggled with an ED, my heart goes out to you, Sam, Dierdre, and Aoife. I am always here if you need. Sorcha’s quiet, beautiful spirit will always live in my memory. She was here, and she was amazing.

Dearest Deirdre and Sam, we’re heartbroken to hear the news and sending all our love to the 3 of you. We understand the struggles with EDs and how all encompassing it is when it takes over your family life. We hope you can cherish the memories and little by little find peace. Much love 💕
Sorcha will forever have a place in my heart. I had the honor of teaching her in third grade, where she was quiet but quietly strong in a way that stayed with you. She was often too shy to read aloud, yet her writing and poetry were deeply expressive—thoughtful and wise beyond her years. I will always remember how she joyfully worked an Irish jig into our class performance of Little Red Riding Hood, and the pride she carried as she performed. Her warm smile, and the deep love she shared with her friends and family, left a lasting impression on me.  Deirdre, Sam and Aoife, I'm thinking of you and sending you love.

Dear Deirdre, Sam and Aoife, I’m so sorry to hear the sad news of Sorcha. I know how much she will be missed by all of you , all of your families and her many friends. I remember seeing you all on your annual visit to Portmarnock and watching the girls growing up. Please take care of yourselves,  Hilary  Crookes, Portmarnock
I remember her jumping on the sofa in Brooklyn.

I am heartbroken. Sorcha was so kind, dedicated, and smart. So many memories; reading in the library in middle school at lunch, going to softball games and events with my brother and seeing her play, Gaia Girls and the camping trips along with it, zoom calls over Covid playing Among Us or GeoGuessr with the whole group of us, rafting trips on the American River and hanging out at Russian River, advanced math tutoring afterschool together where she always knew so much more than the rest of us, and so so many others since we met at Jefferson.

I am so glad to have gotten to write letters to her while she was in Boston and to have visited her in Fremont and in Berkeley in her last few weeks. This awful disorder continues to consume lives, and has affected many people close to me. I truly cannot express in words my sadness.

Sorcha, you are forever in my heart and mind. I love you.

"Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

You were bigger than the whole sky

You were more than just a short time

And I've got a lot to pine about

I've got a lot to live without

I'm never gonna meet

What could've been, would've been

What should've been you"

- Taylor Swift  "Bigger Than The Whole Sky"

We took an afterschool photog…
2019
We took an afterschool photography class together at King Middle, and this is one of my favorite portraits I took of her. We both had the same sass!
We remember Sorcha’s bright eyes and smile from our meeting in 4th/5th grade.  We are thinking of you all.  From our family touched by loss, we say simply that there is community for you — some whom you know now, some in the future — to listen, to hear.

I met Sorcha in Walden. She was a soft spoken girl and so sweet. We made “white lie” tshirts and hers said “i hate animals” and that was hilarious because it was so obviously wrong. When therapy animals would come visit she would hold them for a while and smile.

When I think of those times I remember the pain and the people who stood beside me. It really touched me when Sorcha advocated for me. I had never seen her do it, but I had heard her, and someone now had stepped up for me, something so intimidating, even to myself. I hate that anorexia took her but I hope she can find more piece. I am tired of this illness and everything it has taken and I am sending love to anyone dealing with its repercussions. I love you Sorcha.

This is devastating news and you are all in our hearts. I remember Cleo raving about Sorcha's poetry when we were all at Jefferson. I asked to read a piece, and was so moved I was by her depth and skill. She was so brilliant, so wise beyond her years. We will always remember beautiful, tender Sorcha and the poetry in her heart.

We are heartbroken for the loss of Sorcha. She was such a beautiful and kind spirit, an absolute sweetheart. So many happy memories of Sorcha from Jefferson, Camp Artemis and Cordonices, book group, Little Camp, birthday parties, softball lessons. Rose loved spending time with Sorcha at your house, having the girls over for sleepovers, and being together at Gaia Girls. Those are the memories we’ll always carry with us. Seeing all of these beautiful tributes and photographs, it’s obvious her spirit touched so many people. She will be deeply missed by us all. With love and tears, Apollonia, John, Rose and Olive
