Sonia's obituary
Sonia Cannon, 78, passed away suddenly on September 20, 2022, after a 5-year battle with Alzheimer's and Heart Disease.
Sonia, was born on February 11, 1944, to Raymond and Luz Gonzalez in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. When she was 8 years old, she went to live with her Grandmother in New York. In her 20s she moved to North Carolina and then to Texas, where she lived until her passing.
Sonia enjoyed gardening throughout her life, from her first experience seeing a worm pop out of her first potted plant and throwing the whole plant down her building's trash shoot, to picking up worms, snakes, mice, etc. and moving them safely out of the way when she was digging in her garden. She always loved working with her hands. Many times, she was heard saying: "I can make" or "fix that" when seeing furniture or "I can do that" when coming across needed household repairs.
Her first career was a medical transcriptionist, followed by becoming a Nurse's Aide and later a Teacher's Aide. In that time, she had three children: Clayton, Caleb and Heather. She was a protective mother, always wanting to defend her children and she will be dearly missed.
Sonia was preceded in death by her father, mother and nephew. She found comfort at Acts 24:15 "There is going to be a resurrection.", and John 5:28, 29 "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out", when she thought of the loved ones she had lost, and she wanted to share that comfort. She is survived by her sister, brother, cousin, children, nephew, and grandchildren.
