Simon's obituary

Simon Van den Berg, aged 90, passed away on July 30,2024. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Simon was born on April 20,1934 in Thorn, Netherlands, where he spent his formative years. He went on to enlist in the European military and later became an owner of several car dealerships throughout California and Nevada. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others.

Simon and his wife moved to Canada in 1945, where they had 2 daughters. In 1965, they moved from Canada to California to start fresh and build a new life in the US for their family.

But more than anything, Simon was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, sharing stories, playing games, traveling and taking everyone on road trips. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced.

In his free time, Simon enjoyed traveling in his RV with his wife and grandchildren, watching old movies, reading about history, and spending as much time with family as he could. Simon was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others. He was an active member of his community, volunteering for various causes and organizations, especially the Humane Society.

Simon is survived by his 2 daughters, Martina Daughtery and Jennifer Burchfield, his 2 son- in- laws, Bill Daughtery and Mark Burchfield, his grandchildren, Jessica Tarazon, Jason Ochoa, and Miles Burchfield with their spouses, Justin Tarazon, Jeana Ochoa, and Kyra Kates, his great grandchildren, Brantley Burchfield and Brayleigh Burchfield. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

A private funeral service will be held for family and close friends, September 1, 2024 in San Diego for the spreading of his ashes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Arizona Humane Society or Alzheimer's Association.
