Watching the chatter on Slack as lots of Rubin people traveling to Chile for a big technical meeting as the survey is just about to get going in earnest.  You would have been right in the thick of it, Simon.
Remembering digging truckloads of dirt from our backyard into the Rav, and dumping them in the alley.  Must have been about 40 wheelbarrows worth!  Always lending a hand, Simon was.  Missing him.
Thinking of you today, and frequently.  Pingponging, pool playing, hitting golf balls in the cacti.  So many good times, but cut way too short.

My memories of Simon start with his parents getting married. I was 10 and got to be a junior bridesmaid in Aunt Noell and Uncle Tom's wedding. My mom (Aunt Sue - Noell's older sister) was matron of honor. Aunt Noell wore a cool hat with a wide, soft brim and there were pink flowers on her dress. A pretty addition to traditional white. Us bridesmaids wore pink and my mother made her dress. They got married the day after Aunt Noell's birthday and the day of my little sister (Diana Gerrish)'s birthday so Diana got a little cake all to herself. LOL. Next will be Si before he is born. :-) Diana was 6 that day.

I am deeply saddened with his passing  and can't imagine a world without Simon.

Simon and I lived on Rector 4 at DePauw and  he would also become my pledge brother at SAE. He was kind, funny, worldly and probably the smartest person I knew. He was always in a good mood and there for a friend.

As a freshman, he would often times be the one to get me for our SAE house clean ups and was a whiz with a mop! He held a great attitude for decorating for parties and loved Frisbee in the front yard.

Rest  and enjoy  the skies and greater space you loved so much my friend.

Today I was listening to a podcast about space while working. I had an urge to reach out to Simon and catch up. I am saddened to learn of his passing. We made a lot of memories in college. My heart goes out to his wife, children, and family.

I’m sorry it’s taken so long, Ginny, I’ve been thinking about what to say. I have wonderful memories of both of you on the ultimate field and inviting us to your house for dinner and a game of cups. What I loved most was just the joy that Simon had looking at you and the boys. Even after a long day. One of my most distinct memories was passing to Simon in the end zone with a break mark throw, and after he caught it he yelled “Yes! You can throw to me anytime!”

It was how joyful he was about everything. I miss you, and I hope that you are finding some joy even in this Terrible time.

Love, Marlene

Simon was one of my best friends for many years, and I am sure I'm not the only one to feel that way. He was just that kind of person. I will always cherish the time I spent with Simon, Ginny, Sam and Owen. I will miss our chats about science and other geeky things, learning new yo-yo tricks, or just hanging out.

I will always remember Simon as one to make you laugh but also there when you needed him. We went to the Academy and then started at DePauw together and even though it’s been too many years, I’ll never forget him.
