Shorty's obituary

In Loving Memory of Little Shorty:

Little Shorty, affectionately known as “Shorty” by family and friends, was born in Yazoo City, Mississippi on February 8th, 2010. His early life was difficult, marked by years in a challenging animal hoarding situation. Fortunately, his fate changed when he was rescued by Second Chance Rescue, a dedicated organization based in the New York City metro area.

After his rescue, Shorty was transported to Brooklyn, NY, where he was placed in foster care. There, he patiently waited for someone to see beyond his circumstances. That day came when a 23 year old college student spotted an ad for a “blind, senior rat terrier” described as “as sweet as can be.” Captivated by his sweet face and wise old soul, she went to meet him—and brought him home the very same day.

Shorty quickly revealed he was a bit more spirited than the ad suggested, famously making his feelings known when he attacked Lizzie, the family’s beloved Jack Russell terrier. Despite his feisty nature, Shorty was deeply adored. His lively personality quickly endeared him to his new mom, Rebekah, and Peg, his loving adoptive grandma.

Though small—only 15 pounds—and fully blind, nothing could stop Shorty. He faced every challenge with determination and a loving heart, forever grateful for his second chance. The seven years he spent with us were far too short, and his absence leaves a profound void. We will deeply miss his hungry woofs demanding an early dinner, his silly tail wags, his grumpy growls, and those sassy snips when he was feeling particularly “spicy.”

While Shorty’s start was rough, his later years were filled with unconditional love, countless treats, long walks, cozy beds, and endless kisses. Shorty, your family loves and misses you more than words can express. We hope the other side is showering you with all the rotisserie chicken and love you could ever want. Rest easy, sweet boy—we can’t wait to see you again someday.
