Shiven - thinking about you a little extra today. Grateful that our paths crossed through work, and even more thankful to have found a friend in you. I will always hold the memories of us strolling the streets of London and talking about our dreams of the future fondly. Miss you!

I wanted to give Shiven’s family my dearest condolences regarding this tragic loss.

Shiven Patel, a man who has impacted our lives forever. It's a difficult task to capture the essence of a person who meant so much to so many, but I'll do my best to convey the beautiful soul that Shiven was.

Shiven was, without a doubt, the most selfless person I ever knew. His personality was a mosaic of virtues, each trait contributing to the extraordinary person he was. Shiven embodied patience, wisdom, and selflessness. His sense of humor, an endless source of joy, brought laughter to even the darkest moments. His curiosity and understanding allowed him to relate to anyone on a personal level, regardless of age. For example, this past Thanksgiving he was joking with our two grandpas about how their screen time is too high for their age and to go for a walk and be more present.

Shiven was special from a very young age. Mom and Dad were always amazed by how unique he was. He was a Barney fanatic so much so that at the age of 3, he was able to identify each cassette title by episode. Whenever Mom was cooking and especially if it involved cheese, he was always around the corner with his hands ready to grab it. As he got older, he showed love in many different ways. He called Mom and Dad everyday after work just to ask what they had for dinner, how work was, and what the weekend plans were.

Being a big brother also brought out another side of him. As an older sibling, he always had a competitive nature whether it was winning in Wii bowling or playing Mario Party until he wins it all. His most important trait was showing support and protecting me in any situation.

His relationship with Sam also meant the world to him. Their partnership was unmatched. The love and support they showed each other everyday was a testament that pure, unconditional love exists.

His values included a strong commitment to faith and holiness. Shiven emphasized that his belief in God was genuine, transcending the quantity of times he was present. He was dearest to our beloved Guruji Prem Murti Bapa. He lived by the philosophy of quality over quantity, be it in the clothes he wore, the food he savored, or the trips he embarked upon. He lived by the quote “It does not matter how long you live, but how well you do it.”

Shiven was a pillar of unwavering support, always standing proudly behind everyone's journey in life, no matter the path they chose. His infectious enthusiasm and fear of missing out (FOMO) drove him to be present. For instance, Shiv would attempt to binge watch shows with the family just to rewatch them again the next morning because he fell asleep in the first 10 minutes. His love language was communicated through physical touch – warm hugs and comforting shoulder taps – and the joy of sharing food, a simple yet powerful expression of his deep connections with others.

In his limited time on this Earth, he achieved more than one could imagine, including traveling to over 15 countries, visiting half of the United States, transitioning from engineering to consulting, two vastly different fields, which highlight just how much he accomplished in such a short time. On top of all that, he recently was accepted to pursue his MBA.

As we remember Shiven, let us not dwell on the sadness of his departure but instead celebrate the phenomenal life he lived. The enduring legacy of Shiven will be cherished through his values of family, peace, and love that he wholeheartedly embraced and will impact generations to come. May we find solace in the memories we shared, and may his spirit guide us to live with the same passion, kindness, and joy that he brought to our lives. Your light will forever shine in our hearts, and your memory will be a source of strength and inspiration for us all. Fly Shiven Fly.

No words to express how saddened I am by Shiven’s sudden passing. Shiven was one of the kindest people I truly ever met and what he told me the last time I saw him in person in 2015 always stuck with me. “Just be more confident, Fernando.” He said this due to me being concerned I couldn’t cut it as a bio major while in college. I did eventually find my confidence, Shiven.  Thank you for playing a role in that. Rest easy.

I used to be in the same JSA chapter with Shiven during high school. We also took many classes other. Shiven was always a kind, empathetic soul. He was soft-spoken but incredibly intelligent. It’s extremely unfortunate to hear he passed away. I will always remember fond memories of Shiven during high school and when we got to go to Japan together. RIP Shiven.

Shiven,

It was such an honor and privilege to get to know you through our joint work together. You were an amazing person and professional, and I always looked forward to our discussions and getting your insights, perspectives, thoughts and ideas. You brought so much positivity, energy and excitement to our team which will leave a huge void. You were a role model to all of us in so many ways - and we were so excited to be part of your journey, and excited about your future. Thank you so much for sharing your light with us, it was all too brief, but we will cherish and celebrate your memory and the impact you've had on all of us.

Daniel

Dear Shiv,

I was deeply saddened to hear the news of your passing. You had the most contagious and infectious smile that brought happiness to everyone you came across.  You were truly the nicest person I’ve ever met.  Rest easy my friend.

I am so saddened by your loss Shiv. You were one of the kindest people I've truly ever met. Each time we hung out you made an effort to catch up with every person there and make everyone feel so welcome. I'll be forever grateful I got to see your and Sam's beautiful relationship and learn from the two of you.  I hope you are in a better place now, you will be immensely missed.
Shiven was one of the boldest, wittiest, and kindest people I had the great luck to know. From roasting me in APUSH in high-school, to convincing me to try my first crepe in Japan, to reaching out long after adulthood had put us in different states, Shiven was always genuine, always sensitive to how people were feeling, always bringing life to a room. I was a rough person to know and Shiven was one of the few people who actually took the time to know me. I don’t have the right words to express how sad his sudden passing is. I’m not sure those words exist.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Shiv, a dear friend and an extraordinary individual. Shiv and I first crossed paths at ExxonMobil and later forged a closer bond during our time at McKinsey. Some of my fondest memories with him include our double dates with Sam and Devynn — from watching him enthusiastically sprinkle red pepper flakes on his Italian dishes in Houston to our relaxing times in the lazy river at the company retreat in Phoenix, and our adventurous explorations in London during a work conference. Shiv was undoubtedly one of the kindest and most inclusive people I've ever met. He had this unique way of drawing people in, whether by inviting those on the fringes into a group or explaining inside jokes on Zoom calls so everyone felt included. His generosity knew no bounds; I remember how he once stayed at our Houston apartment while we were away and we returned to find the floors cleaner than ever before. His warmth, inclusivity, and unwavering positivity have left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Shiv's legacy of kindness and his spirit of inclusion will continue to inspire us all.

Shiven - Your loss brings great sadness to me and many of your colleagues.   I didn't have the opportunity to meet you, but reading here and from speaking with colleagues did  who know you, I learned that you were an exceptional human being who truly made a difference.  May your legacy endure, and may you experience great happiness in the next life.

Mitesh
