Shirley's obituary

Shirley Anne Wallenberg "Nana", was born on July 31st, 1933, and passed away on August 21st, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey Wayne Wallenberg (2004) and daughter Bridgette Lee Amonsen (2021). Shirley is survived by her grandchildren Andrew Gordon, Amber and Ryan Pittman, two great-granddaughters Madeline and Allison Pittman as well as her nephew Mitch Edwards.

Shirley and her husband Wayne made a life for themselves and their daughter in the small town of Laverne, Oklahoma. Together they were an integral part of the community, with Wayne serving as the town mayor for a number of years and both co-managing the local hardware store as small business owners.  After retirement, they moved to McMinnville, Oregon, and continued being part of the community helping manage a small rental home neighborhood where they lived as tenants. After Wayne had passed, Shirley moved to Tomball, Texas, to be closer to her family and great granddaughters until her death.

Shirley was an avid painter, painting many dishes as well as canvas paintings for friends and family. She was also very talented with knitting and photography. Well known for her gentle nature and kindness, many friends and family stated she was the "nicest women they had ever met" and her high school yearbook was signed many times "To our Kindest Gal". Regardless of any situation, including the hardships of her life having lived through the Great Depression, the very young burial of her father, as well the burial of both husband and only daughter, she would only share positives words and kind thoughts. In face of any hardship, she maintained an ever strong relationship with God. As a spiritual leader for her family, you could always find her reading her Bible, devotion pamphlets she got in the mail without fail or her large number of religious books. She was loved by all and will truly be missed.

A small memorial is being planned for her to be laid to rest next to her husband in Laverne, Oklahoma. Please reach out to her close family for details. We ask that anyone wishing to send flowers or gifts in her memory wait for this service.
