Shirley's obituary

Shirley (Daigle) Morrissey, 88, of Largo, Florida, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. She was born in Madawaska, Maine on February 16, 1935, daughter of the late Frank Daigle and the late Lillian (Albert) Daigle.

She worked for Cigna Insurance Company in Connecticut for many years and then retired to Florida with her husband John, where she resided for over 40 years.

Shirley was a doer, an organizer and a care giver to all. As a young wife and mother in Connecticut, she was involved in PTA, cub scouts, Hartford Policemen’s Wife Association and local politics. In her retirement years, she continued a busy life, participating in and/or organizing many activities in her Florida community. This included bowling, darts, bingo, bunko and the New England Club. Shirley was a straight shooter with a heart of gold. Her interest and concern was not only her immediate family, but, also, her extended family and friends in Florida and Connecticut.

Shirley’s primary source of enjoyment and pride was her family. She is survived by her daughters Deb Davis, Sharon DeRico (Ray DeRico), Lisa Fallon (Bill Fallon) and her sons, Gary Morrissey (Karen Morrissey) and Kevin Morrissey (Nikol Morrissey). She will be missed immensely by her 11 grandchildren- Stephanie Morrissey, Meagan Morrissey, Katie Terlalis, Mike Terlalis, Jessica Heath, Heather DeRico, Jennifer Rainey, Todd Sanquedolce, Samantha Sanquedolce, Matia Fallon and Sienna Fallon. She also loved her 13 great grandchildren with all her heart. Shirley was a generous woman and served as a mother and grandmother figure for many. Her house was always the center of activity for family and friends, whether in Connecticut or Florida.

She is also survived by her sister Loretta Gillanders, her sister Frances Halish (Anthony Halish) and her brother Peter Daigle (Elizabeth Daigle).

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John Morrissey, her sister, Bernadette Hughes, her son-in-law, Larry Davis, her daughter-in-law, Diane Morrissey and her granddaughter, Kristen Hoag.
