I am sad to read this news. Shirley was like the woman of steel. So much courage and resilience. She faced many many losses of her family. She was a friend to many. I met Shirley @ St. Joseph Hospital in my earlier years. We worked together as nurse assistants. We spent many a times celebrating our coworkers milestones; becoming a registered nurse, becoming a wife/husband, motherhood, fatherhood, birthdays or just some social time to hang out.
Shirley loved to cook yummy snacks, desserts and share the recipes; and i still make her pineapple/zucchini bread.
My memory bank is full of her kindness. Loved talking on the phone. Boy could we talk. As her health declined and her living arrangements needed to change for safety; she still continued to be very social and befriended many of the other residents. I know they will miss her deeply and her wonderful smile as i will also. RIP friend.
