Shirley's obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Shirley Ballance, who left us on April 29, 2023. Born on June 25, 1935 in Trenton, New Jersey to Frederick and Helen Ehret, Shirley lived a vibrant and fulfilling life. Having moved to Waretown NJ as a small child, she grew up helping her parents run Scoops Restaurant & Clam Bar. In her twenties, she began working as Deputy Town Clerk at Waretown Town Hall and continued to fill that role for over 50 years.
Shirley was very involved with her community including playing on two bowling teams at Thunderbird Lanes for many years, working as a poll worker for the Ocean County Election Board for 20 years and being an active member of the Waretown United Methodist Church.
Shirley adored her many cats throughout the years, enjoyed the music of Elvis, watching golf and game shows on television, and cheering on her favorite sports team, the New York Mets. She enjoyed playing games such as rummy and bingo, and her favorite colors were black and red. Those who knew her would describe her as feisty, bubbly, stubborn, generous, and kind.
Throughout her life, Shirley achieved a variety of accomplishments, including raising her three daughters, being an avid bowler, and dedicating 51 years of service at the Town Hall. She was a beloved member of her family and the community, leaving a lasting mark on those who loved her.
She is survived by her three daughters, Denise Wyckoff, Dawn Mundt and Vicki Bradley, son-in-laws Bill Wyckoff and Ed Bradley, grandchildren Melanie Cornpropst and husband Jason Cornpropst, Michael Murray and wife Tanya Murray, Aaron Tallman and wife Jennifer Tallman, Ashleigh Wyckoff, Allison Mueller, Austin Bradley, Ian Bradley and Casey Wyckoff, great-grandchildren Maude, Lola, Matthew, Leo, Ronan, Brenna, Kinsley, Charlee and William, all who will cherish her memory and keep her legacy alive.
