Personal note from Shirley's son David

Everyone who knew my mother would tell you how kind she was. I appreciate everyone who has told me that my mom was kind. She was a very kind individual and a very strong individual. When people tell me how kind my mother was it makes me appreciate my mother all that much more. It also makes me think, "If they only knew." My mother was the survivor of domestic abuse, she had struggled with a mental illness, she was homeless for a short time. There were so many hardships my mom endured, but these hardships did not make her hard or bitter. If anything these hardships made her love, empathy and compassion for others grow exponentially. My mom used to tell me I had a big heart, but I think my mom's heart and ability to love was much greater than mine will ever be. My mother was an exceptional person and I will miss her every day of my life.
