Shirley's obituary
Shirley Ann Johnston, 89, of Norwood, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with several illnesses. True to her wishes, Shirley spent her final days comfortably at home, surrounded by love and care from her daughter, Laurie; son, Robert; daughter-in-law, Cindy; son-in-law, Michael; niece, Nancy; grandson, Bobby, and his girlfriend, Jess. Her family visited her often in the days leading up to her passing, ensuring she was never without their comforting presence.
Shirley was the wife of the late Robert Johnston and the cherished mother of Robert Johnston and his wife Cindy Johnston, Laurie Levy and her husband Michael Levy, and the late William Johnston and his wife Lauren Johnston. Known as "Nana," Shirley is survived by her grandchildren: Sean Johnston, Molly Johnston, Bobby Johnston, Rachel Levy, Elisha Levy, Casey Johnston, Allison Johnston, Chelsea Russell, and Kelly Russell. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Eda Pruneau, the loving wife of the late Richard Pruneau, and their children, Lisa and Frank Connearney and Michelle and Billy McCaffery, and their families.
Born in Brighton, Massachusetts on August 13, 1935, Shirley was a vibrant and “feisty” woman who had a zest for life. She was a foodie, with a passion for driving her car, traveling around New England, and cruising the Caribbean with her family and friends. She was known for her quick wit, sharp tongue, and enjoying an occasional cocktail.
Shirley's legacy is one of strength, love, and a fiery spirit that will be remembered by her family and friends forever.
Services:
A wake will be held at Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St. Norwood, MA on Thursday August 29th from 4-7 pm.
On Friday August 30th, a funeral procession will begin at Gillooly Funeral Home at 10 am, followed by a grave-side ceremony at 11 am at Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut St. Newton, MA where Shirley will be laid to rest next to her son, William.
