Sheryl's obituary
Sheryl Renae Ray
July 8, 1961 – June 30, 2025
Sheryl Renae Ray, beloved daughter, sister, mother, aunt and friend, passed away on June 30, 2025, in Clovis, California, at the age of 63. She was born on July 8, 1961, in Hanford, California.
Sheryl was a mother to five sons and loved them deeply: Shawn Gillaspy (preceded her in death), Nicholas and his husband Ashton Carrizales, Joshua Battagaglia, and his twin brother Jacob Battagaglia (also preceded her in death). Her love for her children was unconditional, and her strength in the face of loss was a true testament to her resilience.
Sheryl is survived by her loving mother and stepfather, Kay and Tom Adams. She was preceded in death by her father, Dave Ray. She is also survived by her siblings: Sherri Gregory and her husband Dean, Terri LoMonaco and her husband Matthew, Terri Adams and Michael Montes, and Nelita Adams. She was preceded in death by her brother, David Ray. And many nieces and nephews. Sheryl often said, “I have the best family,” a heartfelt reflection of the deep love and gratitude she felt for those closest to her.
In addition to her family, Sheryl leaves behind many dear friends who journeyed through life with her and held a special place in her heart.
Sheryl spent many years working as a caretaker and housekeeper. She especially cherished her time working with the Silver Fox ladies, a group that brought her joy and a sense of community.
Friendly, upbeat, and always helpful, Sheryl was known for saying, “What needs to be done?” --a simple phrase that perfectly captured her selfless heart and her readiness to help in any way she could.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of life: a trip to the beach, fishing, casino runs, and time spent with her family and friends. She was known for her incredible cooking skills and her ability to “make something out of nothing,” much like her beloved Grandma Maybelle Rutherford. And, just like her Grandma Mae Ray, Sheryl had a memory like an elephant—sharp and detailed, never forgetting a thing.
A celebration of Sheryl’s life will be held on September 13, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Clubhouse in the Claremont Senior Apartments, 2152 Stanford Ave, Clovis, CA. Please Park on the street of Stanford. All who knew and loved Sheryl are welcome to join in remembering and honoring her life
