Sherman's obituary

Sherman Walter McMullen, born August 16, 1964, passed away at his home on July 25, 2025.

Sherman will be remembered for his big heart and his instinct to help others without a moment’s hesitation. Even if it was a complete stranger, he never thought twice about stepping in when someone was in need. He also possessed a sharp and curious mind, with a deep love for learning about the world around him.

A 1982 graduate of Lancaster High School, Sherman proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman. He worked at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital for a time before being stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, with the U.S. Marines.

First and foremost, Sherman adored music of every kind. He not only loved listening to it but also found joy in creating it. His strong faith and love for the Lord guided him throughout his life, and he carried that devotion wherever he went.

He is survived by his loving mother, Ila Lane; his cherished sister, Michele Varner; his older brother, Kim McMullen; his five beloved children—Brad McMullen, Christopher McMullen, Sarah McMullen, Samantha McMullen, and Andrew McMullen; his three precious grandchildren; his favorite niece, Savannah Arena (previously Varner); and his nephews, Josh Varner and Brock McMullen. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure his warmth, readiness to help, and love for life.

Sherman was preceded in death by his wife, Anne McMullen; his father, Marvin McMullen; his stepfather, Niles Lane; and his younger brother, Todd McMullen.

Sherman’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit remains—and the music he loved so deeply will continue to echo in the lives of those who loved him.
