Sheila's obituary

We mourn the loss of Sheila Marie Blakely, who passed away on May 24, 2024. Born on April 3, 1960, in Chicago, IL, she was known to many as "Momma”. Her heartwarming personality and charismatic nature will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

Sheila was a remarkable woman characterized by her honesty, humor, reliability, and loving nature. Her down-to-earth personality was a breath of fresh air in a world too often misguided by superficiality. The lessons she imparted to those around her continue to inspire; she taught us to love people unconditionally and to always choose forgiveness.

Sheila's tireless determination marked all her efforts, whether advocating for her loved ones at home, in schools, or in a courtroom Sheila’s passion was known to reflect miracles and shine a light. A bright spirit with a keen ear for listening, her accomplishments are reflected in the hearts and minds of those she touched. With all the struggles that life may have brought her way, Sheila never stopped fighting and never gave up on God’s destiny for her life. She knew her words had meaning and that she was special and she used that confidence to uplift any path she crossed.

One of Sheila's most significant milestones was marrying the love of her life, Carl Blakely Sr., on September 13, 1979. Although divorced many years later, this union brought about three children, Antwane, Carol and Carl Jr., whom were guided with core values that prepared them for success in any environment. Sheila leaves behind a legacy of six grandchildren, Demonte, Alicia, Jazmine, Trust, Loyalty, and Peace, demonstrating the enduring impact of her guiding principles. Sheila is survived by her sisters, Rita, Elaine, and Theresa, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins that she cherished and loved dearly. She laid a foundation of hope and trust in God that will continue to be a source of strength for her entire family.

Sheila's boundless love for her family was evident in her willingness to make sacrifices for their happiness. She generously shared her wisdom with those in need, serving as a beacon of faith and hope throughout her family and community. Sheila was a true fighter until the end, and her memory will be kept alive in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her.

Sheila's passage to eternal rest was preceded by her parents Noble and Iris Johnson, and her siblings Marie, Noble Jr. “Bub”, Patricia, Jerome, Ronald, Edward, and Elzada. Their love and memories provide comfort during this difficult time.

Sheila's family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to assist with end of life expenses. Funds are being raised at the following URL: https://everloved.com/memorial/sheila-blakely/memorial-gifts/
