Shawn's obituary

Shawn Thomas Mitcham, 44, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, of natural causes. Born on June 11, 1980, in Wheeling, WV, he was the cherished son of George Thomas Mitcham and JoAnne Mitcham.

Shawn is survived by his beloved wife of nine years, Megan (Dailer) Mitcham, and his daughter, Rosie Elizabeth, expected to arrive in spring 2025. He will be dearly missed by his parents, George and JoAnne; his siblings, Angela (Brian) Noble, Michelle (James) Parsons, and Earnest (Mel) Kemp; his parents-in-law, Jim and Marilyn Dailer; his siblings-in-law, Matt (Julia) Dailer and Erin Dailer; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Shawn was a cherished addition to the Dailer family, embraced by all and leaving an indelible mark on his Dailer aunts, uncles, and cousins, who will miss him deeply. Shawn’s loving cats, Rico and Taddy, were also close companions in his life.

A dedicated professional, Shawn served as Regional Vice President with Life Distribution at Equitable Distributions, LLC, based in New York, NY. He studied at West Virginia University, held a BBA from Western Governors University, and an MBA from Louisiana State University Shreveport. Beyond his career, Shawn’s life was rich with passion and joy; he loved traveling, cooking, and football, as well as golf, renaissance festivals, music and IPAs. He had a deep connection to the beach, savoring the sun on his skin, sand under his feet, and the peaceful rhythm of the waves.

Shawn will be remembered for his radiant smile, positive outlook, and quick wit. Everyone who met Shawn walked away a better person, touched by his kindness, humor, and genuine spirit. His life was filled with laughter, shared adventures, and a love for friends and family. He treasured his time with his “partner-in-crime,” nephew Damian, whom he considered his little buddy.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, November 15, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV. A Celebration of Life will commence at 5:00 pm at the American Legion Post 1, 45 Sycamore Avenue, Wheeling WV. Appetizers and snacks will be served.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Humane Society of Charlotte to honor Shawn’s love for animals and help cats like Taddy and Rico find loving homes. Donations may be made on Ever Loved to assist Shawn's wife Megan and his daughter Rosie.
