Shaune's obituary

Shaune W. Patterson, 53, Died on October 8th in Little Rock AR. Shaune was born in Peoria IL on
November 3rd, 1966 to Judith and Gerald (Sonny) Patterson of Elmwood. Moving to Peoria as a
youngster, he attended Whittier Grade School and Peoria High. Shaune was a talented drummer and
played with various bands in Central IL. He joined the Navy and served as a Stinger ALT Defense Missile
Gunner on many US Ships including the USS Princeton on Feb18th 1991 when the high-tech missile
cruiser struck floating mines in the Northern Persian Gulf. His many medals and ribbons include Combat
Action Ribbon, Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Southwest Asia Service Medal,
National Defense Service Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, .45 Cal
Sharpshooter Ribbon.
After moving to Long Beach CA, Shaune studied at ATWS, Navy Aerographer ‘A’ School studying
Commercial Diving /Underwater NTD inspection/Underwater welding at College of Oceaneering.
Shaune then made his home in Anchorage AK and enjoyed a career as a shear wave weld inspector in
Prudhoe Bay, AK. He enjoyed travel and did so extensively. His three weeks on / three weeks off work
schedule allowed him to travel to Hawaii when not working in Alaska. He was an avid outdoorsman, he
loved mountain biking and hiking and all that the great outdoors had to offer. His family enjoyed his
beautiful photos from his extensive travels.
Shaune never met a stranger. He lived every day to the fullest. He had a big heart and personality and
was loved dearly by his family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Bambi
(Raymond) Bauer of Cedar Grove, NC, Bonni (Steve) Whalen of Peoria Heights IL, Becki (Richard) Martin
of Drasco AR and many loving nieces and nephews. Shaune was preceded in death by his parents,
maternal grandparents Charles A. (Sandy) and Lois Sandberg, paternal grandparents, Ethyl Patterson,
Gerald (Pat) Patterson and Merna Patterson, nieces Shannon Bauer and Alexandria Bauer. Cremation
rites have been accorded. There will be a family celebration of life on November 3,2020 He will be laid to rest with his parents in the Elmwood Cemetery, Elmwood Illinois.
