I am so very sorry to hear Shaune has passed. As a young teenager, I had quite the crush on him.

I lived a few blocks away and I saw him often as he walked down the alley next to my house. He was always so kind. I loved talking to him especially about music.  I really appreciated his friendship.

He always had such a sweet smile and a kind heart.  Thinking of all who loved him!!

Scott Shambaugh... I became aware of Shaune's passing only recently, ..I have been struggling with this news and it has taken me some time to even begin to come to grips with his departure despite not staying in contact with him since I left Peoria in 1993. I first met Shaune while Rich, Becki and a girl I was dating Lynn Messman were to go on a double date all meeting at Shaune's house one evening. Rick Lee, Steve Payne and I were assembling a rock band and were in need of a drummer that could handle some heavy challenging material, not easy to find! So when Becki invited me inside...as soon as I entered the house I could hear a Rush tune playing cygnus x-1 or Xanadu not sure which one but either way hyper complex works in the basement and clearly a drummer playing along....well not just playing along but KILLING the drum kit in perfect sync! So I asked Becky who the hell was playing drums along with a Rush tune??.....without giving her a chance as she attempted to answer me I had already pushed through the basement door fumbling down the stairs in my haste to see what was happening I was met with pitch black darkness, flashing strobe lights a roaring stereo on 10 and a guy playing drums on top of a pool table!!! Shaune Patterson :-) I was paralyzed.............!!!
The rest is kind of history....but for those of us who were blessed to have known Shaune, become friends with him and have the incredible experience to play in a band with him it is was so much more. His truly incredible talent on the drum kit was only matched by his cool cat personality, humble, sincere, kind, never took himself or his skills too seriously to think himself better than other musicians....even though he was! We LOVED music!!, rock music and loved to get in a grove and ram hammer those tunes with all the energy we could muster to exhaustion....and man Shaune was the freight train, broken sticks, drum heads and cymbals cracking at the bell and falling off the stands! There were wood shavings in a pile under his snare drum from sticks that were obliterated...he was big strong and a demon on the kit and we worshiped him! I can recall countless times pounding out Ozzy, Judas Priest and Pat Travers songs and at their pinnacle of coolness looking back at Shaune and him waiting for me to do so ...... so we could acknowledge the awesome feeling of that incredible experience....a life long bond. Rick and his wife BJ visited my family here in Tennessee a few weeks ago....Rick and I were reminiscing about the old days and Shaune's name repeatedly came up and we were determined to reach out to Shaune to reconnect....because the thought of seeing him or even talking to him again became so powerful.....then the news came :(............ We are all heart broken, so many thoughts and prayers to his family and many friends. I was proud and blessed to be his friend.....those memories are some of the most valuable treasures I posses.

My name is Rick Lee. I met Shaune In 1982. I am a bass player and at the time, my band was looking for a drummer with some chops...and damn, did we find one...Having a drummer as naturally gifted as Shaune, we were able to attempt material much loftier than tha average band in Peoria. For those who didn’t know Shaune Patterson, I want to tell you what an INCREDIBLE musician shaune was. That was long ago, but the memories are all clear and sharp....and cherished. Shaune, my dear friend, we will always respect you, miss you......and love you.
The Static ( Scott Shambaugh, Steve Payne, and Rick Lee) was your first band. As a fellow musician, you set the bar to what it remains to this very day. Shaune, thank you for the honor...
We will see each one day...
And for one last time “Shereet my friend...We will not see your like again.
Your Friend, Rick Lee

I first became friends with then Becky Patterson. So she would always tell me about her little brother who was a great drummer.

I first met him in the basement of his home. We talked and got along immediately before he blew my mind playing the drums. I didn't put it together until Becky came downstairs to watch us jam. From that day forward I thought of him more as like a little brother.

My mom cooked for him a few times and he definitely enjoyed second helpings LOL.

My fondest memory of him a group of musicians especially for him went and saw Rush live. Neil Peart was his hero at the time, I almost felt sorry for the three guys sitting in front of us because they became a part of his eardrum kit. I think a few actually got smacked on the head LOL. But from the start until the finish he played air drums and new every song.

I served over 24 years mainly and special operations. I am very proud he joined the Navy and served with distinction!

He was exactly like Roy Rogers who said he never met a man he didn't like. I always remember him and thought of him often because of how incredibly nice a person he truly was.

I will pray for him, and ask my patron Saint Michael to meet him in heaven as a friend.
