Sharon's obituary
We are sad to announce the passing of Sharon Wakefield (nee Kwasigroch) on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Beecher Manor in Beecher, IL, of natural causes at the age of 78. Sharon was born October 23, 1944 to Catherine and Joseph Kwasigroch. As a child, she was a quiet girl who liked to read and ducked out of housework whenever possible. This did not prevent her from becoming a fierce cleaner of her own home. The arrival of Fall was met with the washing of baseboards and storm windows, every year without fail. She married Harry Wakefield October 23, 1965 at St. Joseph Church in Chicago Heights. Together they had three children. They parted ways in the early 1980s and Sharon worked hard to provide a good home for her children, working not only a full time job as an x-ray tech at Ingalls hospital, but also picking up part time hours at Ingalls clinics on nights and weekends. She made an excellent Golabki (stuffed cabbage rolls), world class sloppy joes, and had a beef stew oven recipe that is remembered fondly. Sharon taught her daughters, as her mother taught her, to crack one raw egg against another when baking, for good luck. Her grandchildren still carry on this family tradition, as well as making sure that there are burnt rolls at every holiday gathering.
While she was an extremely private person, she was also very loving and generous. Sharon opened her home like she opened her heart, taking in her husband’s sister Bonnie after her mother passed and several of her childrens’ friends. She made sure they had a place to stay while they regrouped; all while she worked 50 to 60 hours a week.
In her later years she had many physical challenges, with her back and heart, resulting in her moving from her home to Sunrise Villa. While it was a difficult transition, Sharon made it work and built a posse of new friends. Sharon worked to keep her mind sharp, doing crosswords, Sudoku and complex jigsaw puzzles in mortal combat. Phone calls and visits from her daughter and grandchildren made her heart smile. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandson with all her heart. She will be sorely missed by those whose hearts she touched.
She is survived by her daughter Melissa (John) Albano, her son Christopher (Carolyn), grandchildren Alissa and Chris Jr., Tyler Gallery (Ryan), Payton Gallery, and Chloe Gallery (Nathaniel) and her great grandson Asher.
Preceding Sharon in death were the father of her children Harry Wakefield and her beloved daughter Shawn Gallery. She was welcomed into heaven by many close family and friends.
Sharon requested to be cremated for no service to be held. Please send your loving memories to her in heaven.
