Ollie's obituary

In loving memory of Sharon "Ollie" Orr, a devoted husband, father, and papa.

Sharon “Ollie” Orr, while surrounded by family, passed away on February 12th, after a short battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Born on September 23, 1939, in Muncie, Indiana, Ollie dedicated his life to God and his family. A faithful member, elder, and deacon at several churches (most recently at Glad Tidings North).

Ollie was passionate about sharing his faith with others and prioritized participation in a church community. He shared this passion with his best friend Leroy (now deceased) through Bible studies and preaching across the state of Indiana.

Ollie was an exemplary husband, father, grandfather, and human being. He embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and selflessness that could be seen in his care for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He worked hard for his family and dedicated 42 years of his life to Chevrolet Muncie / New Venture Gear. Ollie also served in the Army in Thailand and was stationed in Oahu at Schofield Barracks.

Ollie taught his kids how to change the oil on a car, how to change a flat tire, how to budget (he was known as a penny pincher), and how to “rig” whatever household appliance needed fixing. Duct tape was his friend. He also taught his children and grandchildren compassion, hard work, forgiveness, and how to pray and be faithful.

Ollie joins his mother Edyth Wray, step-father Carleton (Cotch), Aunt Edna, mother-in-law Wilma Riddle, father-in-law Euel Riddle, and niece Courtney Riddle in heaven. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis (Riddle) Orr, his brother Jeff Wray, son Bentley Orr, daughters Kim (Orr) Bowyer (Sam), Wendi (Orr) Kirby (Thomas), and son Matthew Orr (Angelica), brother-in-law Danny Riddle (Kelly), along with his furry best friend, Bella.

His legacy extends through grandchildren Brock Triplett (Anna Triplett), Kasie Orr, Chelsey Triplett, Spencer Kirby (Megan Kirby), Stormie Harless (Michael), McKenzie Criswell (Zach), Sarah Burns (Logan), and Grant Bowyer (Emily), as well as great-grandchildren Faith, Jensen, Jorja, Easton, Sloane, and Murphy.

In his leisure, Ollie found joy in gardening, reading Christian books, and riding his bike. In fact, he would regularly bike 20 miles a day after retirement. Ollie knew the importance of remaining active and was often exceeding the limits of what one might expect someone in their 80’s to be able to do, physically and mentally. Even at the very end, he was able to share how much he loved each of us, that he would miss us, that would see us all soon, and to make sure we were all in church.

Special thanks to the nurses, doctors, and hospice care from Ball Hospital, especially those on the third floor (South Tower). Ollie's unconditional love, sense of humor, and love for God will be missed by us all. His memory and legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who were touched by his love and kindness.

His Celebration of Life will be held at Glad Tidings North on Saturday, Feb 17, with visitation from 1-2:30 and the service at 2:30, conducted by Pastor Ty Thompson. The church is located at 5401 West Hessler Road, Muncie, Indiana

The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time and asks that you make contributions to Glad Tidings North (Muncie) in lieu of flowers.
