Sharon's obituary
Sharon Lucille Williams
September 10, 1946 – November 19, 2025
Sharon Lucille Williams was born on September 10, 1946, in Vancouver, Washington, to Melvin Rose and Joan Sloan Gallatin. She graduated from Hillsboro High School (’64) and spent her life throughout the Portland area, with most of her years in Hillsboro and Forest Grove—communities she loved deeply and served faithfully.
Sharon cherished time with her family above all else. Whether laughing around a table of games, taking spontaneous adventures, or running her feet through the sand at any beach in the country, she was most at home when surrounded by her children, her five grandchildren, and her community of friends in Gamblers Anonymous. Among her GA family she blended healing work with joy—organizing annual beach retreats, celebrating milestones, and creating a sense of belonging that lifted so many.
After a lengthy career in the insurance industry, Sharon discovered her true calling through her own path of recovery. Having overcome a gambling addiction, she transformed her experience into a life of service as an addiction counselor—work that would go on to touch and save countless lives. For 36 years she was a devoted member and leader within Gamblers Anonymous, becoming the first woman to walk into a GA meeting in the Portland–Vancouver area. She later served as a GA trustee and a powerful advocate for recovery, offering guidance, compassion, and unwavering honesty to those seeking help.
Sharon also contributed her expertise to Cascadia Health, counseling individuals navigating addiction, and played a pivotal role with Bridgeway Recovery Services. There, she helped establish an addiction curriculum and facilitated meetings at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, bringing hope and tools for healing to those often forgotten. Her ability to connect deeply with others—rooted in her own journey—became her gift, and her legacy lives on in the many she helped to reclaim their lives.
Sharon is survived by her children, John Williams and Jennifer Williams; her siblings Harvey Rose, Carol Lee, and Melanie Rose; and her five beloved grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister Shannon Montano and her parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 28, 2025, from 1:00–3:00 p.m. at the Walters Cultural Arts Center, 527 E Main St, Hillsboro, OR 97123.
Sharon will be remembered for her courage, her generosity, her humor, and her fierce belief that anyone—no matter their past—deserves a chance at healing and hope.
