Sharon's obituary

Sharon “MUMMA D” Dillabough (71) passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Kingston General Hospital on April 16, 2024.

Sharon was known as a selfless, compassionate person, committed in her faith and found joy in helping others. She will be deeply missed by her husband Bill VanderVelde and her two sons Matt Dillabough (Julie), and Mark Dillabough (Darci). She will be missed by her siblings Judy Roberts (Alan), Bonnie Reid (Reginald), Tab Borden (Darleen), Jim Kirkby (Marg) and Donnie Goodlad (Penny). Sharon is predeceased by her parents Lloyd and Olive Kirkby.

Sharon was also a very special part of her extended family and will be remembered fondly by her sister-in-law Heather Durant, Matt and Mark’s father Brian Dillabough, and their grandmother Eileen Dillabough. Sharon was loved and will be missed by Vicky VanderVelde, who Sharon treated like a daughter. Sharon is also survived and loved by several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.

Sharon’s family, friends and faith were the center of her life. She was a devoted member of the Open Door Fellowship Church. She was also a dedicated volunteer with the North Augusta Recreation Committee where she brought joy to the lives of many children - who called her MUMMA D. She will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

A funeral service to celebrate her life and legacy will be held at 11 am Saturday, May 4th at the Open Door Fellowship Church located at 4457 Rowsome Road, Brockville with reception to follow at the Grenville Snowmobile Club located at 4601 Carleville Road. 

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity, association or other cause of your choice in memory of Sharon.
