Born on February 15, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, to Reverend Kenneth Stewart and Ella (Cobb) Stewart, Sharon was raised in Detroit alongside her siblings, in a home full of warmth, love, and a strong family bond.
Sharon was an exceptional student, excelling throughout her education in Detroit Public Schools. She graduated early from Cass Tech-Commerce High School and went on to pursue her passion for helping others. Sharon spent a number of years working as a nanny before becoming a certified dental assistant at a local dental office. In later years, she earned a Bachelor of Administration degree from Wayne State University with high honors, a testament to her commitment to excellence.
Sharon’s greatest joy in life was her family. She married Ernest Benbow Jr., a former patient, and together they had three daughters: Lisa, Michele, and Cherrie. Sharon poured her heart into her role as a mother, nurturing her children with endless love and care. After the passing of her beloved sister, Janet, Sharon embraced the responsibility of raising her niece, Petrina, ensuring Janet’s spirit and love would continue on.
A woman of faith and grace, Sharon’s passions extended beyond her family. She loved traveling, attending fashion shows, and spending time with her sisters. Sharon’s selflessness was evident in her volunteer work, where she mentored youth, tutored, and advocated for individuals with special needs in the Michigan Judicial System. She was also an avid gardener, a talented homemaker, and an active volunteer in her community.
Sharon’s legacy is one of compassion, strength, and generosity. She always put the needs of others before her own, facing every challenge with grace and dignity. Sharon taught those around her the value of love, perseverance, and faith, and she inspired everyone she met with her unwavering kindness.
