Shannon's obituary
Shannon Elizabeth Aldrich Pohlman entered her Heavenly life on December 19, 2023 after a heroic
battle with triple negative metastatic breast cancer. As in true Shannon form, she leaves a legacy of
strength, compassion, and kindness.
Shannon’s remarkable Earthly life began July 23, 1982 in Newport News, Virginia. She is the daughter of
Sherri Robinson Aldrich and Jeffrey Aldrich. She is a 2000 graduate of Tabb High School where she
participated in many clubs and activities and was a featured solo majorette at times. She went on to
attend and graduate from Radford University (2004) with a Bachelor of Science, Exercise, Sport, and
Health Education degree. She was also a member of Alpha Sigma Tau sorority where she served as
Parliamentarian, Recruitment Chair, and Air Bands Chair. She earned a Master’s of Arts in Teaching from
St. Leo University and went on to touch many lives teaching in both York County and Hampton, K-12
Science Teacher Specialist, and most recently as Digital Learning Coordinator for HCS.
Shannon also had a love for dance and influenced many lives as a dancer, instructor, and award-winning
choreographer for Poquoson Dance Academy.
While education and dancing are passions, Shannon’s true calling came when she met and later married
the love of her life, Matthew Pohlman on August 3, 2013. The couple was blessed with two precious
boys, Gunnar (8) and Rhett (4), and Shannon’s role as a mother, protector, and guide for Matt and the
boys was always her most important consideration.
Shannon was welcomed into her Heavenly life by many family members to include Walter Vawter
(Grandfather), Billy Robinson (uncle), and Carol Duke Rippy (great-aunt). Shannon also has many who
will carry on her wishes which include her devoted husband Matt and sons Gunnar and Rhett, parents
Sherri Robinson Aldrich and Jeffrey Aldrich, sister and protector Whitney Aldrich, in-laws Gary and Vicki
Pohlman, maternal grandmother Mary Jo Vawter, paternal grandparents James and Ann Aldrich, sister-
in-law Valerie Pohlman Skurdal (Corey) a nephew, two nieces, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held January 6, 2024 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Hall from noon until 3:00
pm. 250 Fox Hill Rd. Hampton, Va. 23669
