Tony Hummel
1987, Lakewood High School, Lancer Road Southeast, Hebron, OH, USA

Shane and I were assigned as lab partners in Biology class. We directed a cat together that we lovingly named Woofie.

We became the best of friends and were inseparable. We did everything together from shopping, double-dating and our fair share of skipping school.

We remained friends throughout the years getting to visit every five years or so.

Though we didn't talk as often in later years, we did remain in touch.

My heart was broken when I learned of his passing. I will miss him so much. But I will take 40 years of memories with me.

I love you, brother. RIP

One of the best guys I’ve ever known, so many great memories with him growing up from eating steak sandwiches at 4 in the morning to the back yard football games at Whipple’s Halloween parties, took 4 or 5 of us to tackle him lol.. The one quote from Shane I’ll never forget is us at Papa Boos for our class reunion and he says you know why divorce cost so much, it’s because it’s worth it .. Never a dull moment with the guy, gonna miss the guy but honored to have known such a great guy, rest in peace my friend..

Because there was no better way to spend spring game than with all the girls getting ready for homecoming 2010

I met Shane Mattingly while working in the communications center at MedFlight.

We clicked quickly — he was my kind of people. Though our pasts took different paths, we shared the same beliefs and sense of humor.

Our little crew — Dusty, Matt McCann & Shane — ended up working together regularly, and having people at work you genuinely enjoy made everything better.

Toward the end of our MedFlight days, we all moved on to greener pastures, and Shane, a huge Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefers fan, eventually packed up and headed to Florida. Needed some ocean!

Over the years, life got busy, and distance crept in, but thanks to technology, we stayed in touch. Even so, we drifted apart as so many friendships do. Everyone's lives got busy. 😞

I was totally shocked to hear of his passing. Like floored.

Fifty-three is far too young. Rest in peace, dear friend. I’ll raise a Rum and Coke in your honor.

My deepest condolences to his family. He will be missed.

Uncle Shane was always like another father to us. Some of the best memories I have are from family cookouts and gatherings in Thornville growing up. He was always someone we could lean on and was an awesome role model. I’ll be singing Jimmy Buffett a little louder. Love you
I will forever giggle and think of you when i see Bob Ross. The lengths you would go to bring a smile to my face. Rest easy my friend. Sending love and prayers to the family and all who loved him. He will never ever be forgotten. He was an amazing soul with lots of love and laughs to share.

My condolences to the entire family.  Every time I saw Shane a gentleman’s gentleman!  A class guy!  He would find me at the beach & always connected.  I always heard great things about Shane from Katheryn….. Shane, if you’re reading this….. Kat loves you very much! RIP my friend!
