Seyril's obituary

Seyril Siegel, age 82 of Boca Raton, FL, passed away on Monday, April 10th, 2023.

She is predeceased by her mother Betty Siegel, parents Gilbert and Minnie Siegel and her brother Bruce Siegel. Seyril was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, graduating from Bexley High School in 1958. From there she headed to Connecticut College, which was then a women’s college, where she majored in Government.

After graduation, Seyril moved to New York to begin her amazing career in international public service. She first worked for the United States Mission to the United Nations, became a U.N. Guide, moved on to work for the Afghan Representative to the United Nations and then for the United Nations Development Program. While at UNDP, she lived in Chile, Uruguay, Ecuador and Venezuela with stints back in New York at UNDP headquarters. Seyril eventually became UNDP’s Resident Representative in Ecuador and then Venezuela, picking up her M.A. from New York University in Public Administration during a posting back in New York. During her time working for UNDP in Venezuela, Seyril coordinated part of the emergency relief effort during the Vargas Tragedy in 1999, when torrential rains caused vast devastation in the Vargas state.

After leaving UNDP, Seyril remained in Venezuela to work for CAF, a development bank in Latin America. She was the Director of Technical Cooperation and Governance and then the Head of Human Resources.

Upon retiring, Seyril moved to Boca Raton to be near her widowed mother who was then in her nineties. She pursued her love of tennis, played bridge, attended cultural events, became an active member of her church, and volunteered with the Red Cross and Best Foot Forward.

Seyril is survived by: her daughter, Isabel Siegel Griffith (Benjamin) of Cumberland Foreside, Maine; her beloved grandson Noah; her sisters, Deborah BenZion (Uri) of Riverdale, NY and Rosalyn Siegel (Art) of Los Angeles, CA. She will be missed by her sister-in-law Ellen Siegel Pollack, her niece and nephews, as well as many great-nieces and nephews and many friends, both in the United States and in South America.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 24th, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Boca Raton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Best Foot Forward or Boca Helping Hands.
