Sergio Portillo (1968–2025)

Con mucho dolor, anunciamos el fallecimiento de Sergio Portillo, de 57 años, de Carpentersville, IL, quien falleció pacíficamente rodeado de tanto amor y familia el 22 de noviembre de 2025, en UChicago Medicine. Sergio luchó contra el cáncer durante los últimos dos años y luchó con mucha fuerza y determinación.

Sergio nació el 11 de abril de 1968, en Balleza, Chihuahua, hijo de los fallecidos Wistano y Belia Portillo.

La mayor alegría de Sergio eran sus hijos. Aunque estaban a cientos de millas de distancia, no pasaba un día sin que él los tuviera en mente. Valoraba un marco con su foto junto a su cama, un recordatorio constante de su amor. Sergio enfrentó muchas batallas personales en silencio, pero su corazón era inmenso, lleno de amor por quienes lo rodeaban. Su hermana, Julia, su mejor amiga y dedicada cuidadora, lo extrañará profundamente. La familia significaba todo para Sergio. Disfrutaba de los placeres simples de la vida: compartir historias en el porche tomando café, disfrutando de un cigarro y pasando horas tranquilas pescando. Será recordado por su amabilidad, siempre diciendo "te quiero" antes de colgar el teléfono, y por su inquebrantable apoyo a sus seres queridos.

Sergio deja atrás a sus hijos, Sergio y Steven Portillo; a sus 12 hermanos; a sus sobrinos y nietos, Gael y Liam Portillo.

Se llevará a cabo una visita el viernes 28 de noviembre de 2025, de 4:00 PM a 9:00 PM en Dundee Funeral Home, ubicado en 485 Dundee Ave, East Dundee, IL 60118. Un servicio fúnebre tendrá lugar a las 9:00 AM del sábado 29 de noviembre de 2025, en la Iglesia Católica de Santa Mónica, 90 N John F. Kennedy Dr, Carpentersville, IL 60110. El entierro seguirá al servicio en el Cementerio East de Dundee Township.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sergio Portillo, 57, of Carpentersville, IL, who died peacefully surrounded by so much love and family on November 22, 2025, at UChicago Medicine. Sergio battled with Cancer these last two years and he fought so strong and hard.

Sergio was born on April 11, 1968, in Balleza, Chihuahua, to the late Wistano and Belia Portillo. 

Sergio's greatest joy was his children. Even though they were hundreds of miles away, not a day went by without them on his mind. He cherished a picture frame of them at his bedside, a constant reminder of his love. Sergio faced many personal battles silently, yet his heart was immense, filled with love for those around him. He will be profoundly missed by his sister, Julia, his best friend and devoted caretaker.Family meant everything to Sergio. He relished the simple pleasures of life: sharing stories on the porch over coffee, enjoying a smoke, and spending peaceful hours fishing. He will be remembered for his kindness, always saying "I love you" before hanging up the phone, and his unwavering support for his loved ones.

Sergio is survived by his children, Sergio and Steven Portillo; all 12 of his siblings; his nieces and nephews, and his grandchildren, Gael and Liam Portillo.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Dundee Funeral Home, located at 485 Dundee Ave, East Dundee, IL 60118. A funeral service will take place at 9:00 AM on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at St Monica's Catholic Church, 90 N John F.Kennedy Dr, Carpentersville, IL 60110. Interment will follow the service at Dundee Township East Cemetery.
