Sean's obituary

Sean Nash, 53, of Chicago, IL, passed away on March 1st, 2025, in Chicago, IL. His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him. A loving father, son, brother, uncle and friend, Sean’s impact on the lives of those around him is immeasurable. He was deeply devoted to his family and always made time for the people who mattered most to him.

A Chicago native, Sean was born on June 22, 1971, to Lawrence Delmar Hall and Juanita Nash. He attended the prestigious Hotchkiss Boarding School in Salisbury, CT, graduating in 1989. His academic journey continued at Stanford University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Classics in 1993. Sean’s passion for knowledge and strong sense of justice then led him to Northwestern University, where he earned his Juris Doctor (JD) in 1998.

His career as a lawyer spanned several esteemed firms, including Wildman & Harrold, Holland & Knight, and Winston & Strawn. His areas of practice were primarily Labor & Employment and Commercial litigation. Through his passion of fighting for others and his concentrated work ethic he was able to reach positions such as the Managing Counsel at United Airlines, and the VP of HR and In House-Counsel at Johnson Service Group, Inc. He later took his talents to other companies such as Curaleaf, Carta, and Google, and served on the Illinois Judicial Inquiry Board since 2019 and was recently elected (February 2025) the Vice Chair of the Board.

His colleagues admired his intellect, dedication, and compassion, and his legacy of leadership/mentorship will continue to live amongst the many people he connected with.

Outside of his career, Sean always had an appreciation for the arts. From cooking, to sketching, to painting, to music, and even language, he had a deep appreciation for seeing the world through an artistic lens. His home reflected that as it was filled with laughter, good food, and the sounds of music. He'd always used to say that, at the very least, “you'd have a good laugh and you'd be fed” if you visited him.

Sean was married to Dorian H Nash for 22 years, and together they built a beautiful family. Though their paths eventually diverged, their bond as co-parents remained strong, and they shared a deep respect and love for one another. Dorian was not only his former spouse but the mother of his two greatest joys, their daughters, Taylor and Maya Nash.

Sean is preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Elzie Hall. He is survived by his loving parents, Lawrence Delmar Hall and Juanita Nash, his sisters, Sharon Bush (and nieces Sydney, Kayla, and Nina) and Jennifer Harris (and nephew Jalen, and nieces Jalissa, Jasmine, and Jada). His brothers, Steve Nash (and wife Natalie, and niece Vivian) and Russell Nash (and nieces Madison and Morgan) were a constant source of love and support. Above all, Sean is survived by his daughters, Taylor and Maya, who were his pride and joy.

He is also survived by a host of other relatives, close family, and dear friends, all of whom were deeply cherished by Sean and who will miss him dearly.

As we say goodbye to Sean, we take comfort in knowing that his memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and love.

Though we are disheartened by his passing, we know we must carry on with his legacy in mind in hopes to honor what he would always say, "Nash's don't quit."

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 23, 2025 at Garfield Park Conservatory, 300 N. Central Park, Chicago, IL 60624 at 6pm - 7:30pm with Elder Steve Nash of First Tabernacle Community Church officiating.
