Sean's obituary
In Loving Memory
Sean Graney of North York, Ontario, passed away on July 27, 2023, as a result of a massive cardiac event eleven days earlier. Sean will be forever missed by his wife Mishelle, his children, Olivia and Aidan, his father Edward (Catherine) and his brother Scott (Luciana). He is predeceased by his mother, Sheila.
Sean was born in East York on July 23, 1970, but spent much of his childhood in Mississauga where he met lifelong friends at the local elementary school. Sean had a love of learning and attended Wilfrid Laurier University for Economics, University of Waterloo for Psychology and then OISE for a Bachelor of Education. He also was a licensed realtor and an elections officer for Elections Ontario, Elections Canada, and the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario. He actively volunteered as a softball league coach and commissioner as well as being the president of his children’s daycare (even long after they had outgrown it!).
Everywhere Sean went, he made friends. At his celebration of life, one friend recalled him with the word “big” – a big presence, a big laugh, a big heart, a big appetite for adventure, a big love of helping others.
Sean was devoted to his family and friends. Mishelle was the light of his life. He loved exploring with his kids – salamanders, frogs, and other animals featured heavily in their summer vacations. Sean loved playing sports (golf, softball, squash, curling) and board games, especially with Mishelle and the kids but also with the poker guys and with friends (and their kids!) from school. He loved to cook and hosted many celebrations. Sean was also a tireless caregiver for his late mother, Sheila and, more recently, his father Ed.
Sean’s family and friends would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Sunnybrook Cardiac ICU as well as the North York General ICU for their care in Sean’s last days. Sean, as in life, made life-changing organ donations through the Trillium Gift of Life and we know he would encourage everyone to sign their donor cards to make sure as many people as possible can be helped.
A celebration of life took place on August 5, 2023. If desired, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
