Scott's obituary
Scott Bradford Van Horn, a profoundly devoted husband, father, son and brother, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 45. His passing followed a very short but hard-fought battle with brain cancer.
Scott’s greatest joy was his family, and he brought infectious laughs and smiles to everyone he met. Throughout his life, his generous spirit and commitment to service were evident.
Scott loved and lived football. From the time he could first hold a ball to the years he spent playing well into his 40s, the game was woven into who he was.
He found his path in law enforcement, proudly following in his brother’s footsteps. It was there that he discovered a true calling—encouraging others and inspiring them to become the best versions of themselves. This led him to other careers in guiding those who are less fortunate to better lives.
Scott loved taking his wife and family on adventures. Wherever football took him, he made sure there was always something fun for his family to experience—whether it was climbing “mini mountains,” unforgettable trips to sporting venues and events, or walking huge zoos and aquariums. He once surprised his wife with a special stay in the penthouse at Trump Towers. His family is forever grateful for the countless memories they shared with him, each one a reminder of the joy, excitement, and love he brought into their lives.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kristi Van Horn, and their children: Jarrett, Adalynn, Kendra, Keith, Kenton, Kameron, and Kristin. Scott was a doting "Pawpaw" to his two cherished grandchildren, Lucas and Imogen.
Scott will be deeply missed by his parents, Linda and Rev Richard Brooks; his siblings, Jeff and Nicky Van Horn, Christopher and Andrea Brooks, Renè and Brian Krow; as well as several loving siblings he met later in life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Van Horn.
The family will hold a remembrance to celebrate Scott’s life in Maize, KS, November 21st, 2025, 2pm at the Maize United Methodist Church. Gathering of family and friends to follow at the Maize Community Building where all will have a chance to visit and tell stories. They ask that you honor his memory by continuing his legacy of encouraging kindness and laughter in the world.
