I wanted to share another funny story about my brother that came to mind yesterday. We lived in Canada for about 5 years because our dad's job was transferred there. One year, my mom, dad, brother, and I went out for Father's Day dinner at a place called Kelsey's, which is very similar to TGI Fridays in the US.

My brother ordered something that came with a side of french fries and wanted to put some ketchup on them. The ketchup was in a glass bottle with a metal screw-top lid. I don't know if someone didn't realize they had not secured the bottle cap back on or if it was a prank, but when my brother went to shake the bottle to get the ketchup going before taking the top off, the top flew off the bottle, and the ketchup went all over the front of Scott's shirt, face and hair. He even had some on his eyelids! The staff felt so bad for him that they got him a free Kelsey's t-shirt to change into.

We all laughed about that moment for a while after. But one thing I remember most about this moment is how hard our dad laughed. I'd never seen him laugh that hard before. I can only hope that Scott and our dad are now laughing together and sharing that memory now.

Sending love to your family

We are so sorry for your loss 🙏🏻❤️

Today marks a week from the m…

Today marks a week from the moment my family learned the tragic news of the passing of my irreplaceable little brother, Scotty. If you knew our family, you knew him. He was the absolute best of us in many ways, our hero. He inspired and influenced so many people. He was incredibly kind, loving, thoughtful, generous, witty, hilarious, and selfless. He loved music. He loved animals, the outdoors, and his Volkswagons. More than anything, he loved his friends, family, and wife, Joy, and he always showed it.

He told us he loved us every single time we were together. May we all live like that- don’t waste any time. Tomorrow is NEVER promised!

I will love him forever and miss him every day for the rest of my life. He will always be such a big part of me and my family. Sweet dreams, Scotty. I know we’ll be together again in heaven. And I’ll see you in my dreams.

If I could have one last conversation with my good friend Scott, I would just say “Thank You”.

Thank you for being such a great example of Gratitude In Action. I don’t know how many Wednesdays and Sundays you spent taking meetings into Issaquah Jail, but thank you for your example, time and energy. I don’t know how many times you were Coffee Maker or Secretary but thank you for your commitment and service. And I don’t know how many years you held on to the PLS BBQ grill because no one else wanted to, or how many projects you helped us with, but thank you for your generosity.

One Thanksgiving you invited me to spend it with your family because you heard I was going to be alone. It was just what I needed at the moment and it meant the world to me. I’ve witnessed and heard countless other stories of how you showed up for people without thinking twice about it because that’s just who you are. I could go on and on about all the adventures and funny stories we shared over the last 15 years. But I prefer to remember the couple of special memories we shared over the last couple weeks. We had a BBQ and I forgot ALL the cooking utensils. You saved the day like only you could, by having a lighter (even though you don’t smoke) and creating a spatula out of a paper plate. And you did it all with a sense of humor and sincere pleasure to serve.

Pulling out his lighter he said “I never know where I might get stranded. I remember getting lost on my motorcycle and driving for miles already on reserve. It was getting dark and I barely found my way out in time.”

After we ate, a friend insisted Scott go out on the jet ski. He got a life jacket on with one buckle and asked, “Aren’t you gonna come out?” I said “Oh yeah!” and we raced each other up and down Lake Sammamish until we had our fill. That day ended with big hugs all the around and a “Love you brother!”. Thank you for the flame you brought to life Scott. We will continue to carry the torch for you until we can headbang again. Love you brother.
