Scott's obituary
In Loving Memory of Scott Martin Conroy
On November 20th, the world lost a one-of-a-kind soul, Scott Martin Conroy, at the age of 41.
It's impossible to contain all that Scott was in words. A charismatic optician with a keen eye for fashion. A thrifting enthusiast long before "Thrift Shop" went mainstream. A contemporary art aficionado (or maybe a critic). A guy with an enviable head of hair, a killer smile, and a deep love of people and music. His passion for skateboarding was only surpassed by his deep appreciation for unique styles and one-of-kind glasses. Spinning records and making beats, he created a soundtrack to his life that will forever echo in our memories.
Scott was born to Donna and Martin Conroy on April 29, 1982 in Schaumburg, IL where he was raised and met his lifelong friend, Blake Young. Throughout his life, he found home in many places with people he loved. In Los Angeles and New York with his sister, Kelly. In the Chicagoland area with his Aunt Beth and Uncle Ken. In Boston with his Aunt Cindy. In Minnesota at Parrot Point on Lake Vermilion with his Dad and Dodi, and with his best friend Nate Schrecengost and family. And finally, in Champaign, IL where he lived with his cousins Katie Funk and Jared Miller, and his late girlfriend, Carly Benjamin.
Wherever he was, Scott made an indelible mark on those he met. He approached life with the same loyalty and high energy he found in his beloved dog, Loon, and had a way of making everyone feel like his best friend. He was more than a son, brother, uncle, friend, or a bonus brother. With his endearing and lovable spirit, he quickly made his way into the hearts of all of us who were lucky enough to know him.
He was a reminder to us all to embrace life's quirks and find humor even in its most unexpected moments. As we say our goodbyes, let us remember Scott with laughter, love, and the knowledge that he lived life on his terms.
Rest in peace, dear Scott. May the thrift stores in the afterlife be abundant, and may you be greeted by sweet Loon dropping a ball at your feet.
Scott is survived by his sister and nephew (Kelly Conroy and Rome Conroy), his mother (Donna Conroy), his father (Marty Conroy), aunts, uncles, cousins, and his beloved chosen family.
