Scott's obituary
BROOKLIN — Scott William Ingraham passed away on Sunday, March 17, St. Patrick’s Day, after a courageous battle following a period of declining health. He was 61. He died peacefully looking at the White Mountains with his beloved wife, Wendy, by his side.
For four decades aboard his cherished lobster boats, Wendy Dear and successor Wendy Dear II, Scott was a respected, dedicated, hard-working commerical fisherman harbored out of Stonington.
Scott was a 1980 graduate of Deer Isle-Stonington High School, where he was a multi-sport standout, especially in basketball as he helped lead the Mariners to a tournament berth at the old Bangor Auditorium. Scott was named a McDonald’s All-American for Maine in basketball his senior year.
After he studied forestry one year at the University of Maine in Orono, Scott opted to switch gears and lived his passion as a self-employeed commerical fisherman for the next 40-plus years. He had an incredible, unwavering love of the ocean and the outdoors.
He married Wendy Allen in 1988 and the couple, who lived 36 years in Brooklin, had two sons, Jesse and Brett.
Scott is predeceased by his mother, Margaret Kimball Spofford of Deer Isle; his sister, Lorilee Waltz of Bangor; and his beloved friend from high school, fellow fisherman Robert “Bongo” Anderson.
Scott leaves behind his beloved wife, Wendy Ingraham of Brooklin; sons, Jesse, and his wife, Kayla, and Brett, both of Brooklin; grandchildren, Emilia and Elliott, also of Brooklin; father William Ingraham, and his wife, June, of Rockland; brother Kenneth Waltz, and his wife Sarah, of South Thomaston; and sister Marguerite Dean of Powell, Tenn.
Some of Scott’s passions were watching his sons and grandchildren play sports, playing basketball with his favorite triplets, hunting and fishing, spending time in the White Mountains with family and, as a lifelong fan, following the progress of the Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Scott was known for his toughness, deep compassion, many friendships and overall kindness. He never took himself, or anyone else, too seriously and always had a tremendous sense of humor and dry wit.
One of the final things Scott was able to do was attend a Boston Bruins game with his sons, as Scott rode in the back seat of the vehicle cracking jokes during that memorable “boys” trip.
Scott was born on July 3, 1962 in Rockland, where he grew up and was a tremendous youth and school athlete in baseball, basketball and football. In fact, he played those sports for two years at Rockland District High School before his family moved to Florida and then, ultimately, to Deer Isle.
Some of Scott’s fondest memories were playing wiffleball and football with his family during gatherings and special occasions.
A sense of pride for Scott was that his sons, Jesse and Brett, followed in his footsteps and are involved in the fishing industry. Humorously, in an ongoing, back-and-forth with his sons, both former basketball players at George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill, Scott, at 6 feet, insisted he was taller. Jesse is 6-1 and Brett 6-3. Even the family photos of Scott on his tippy toes could not hide that fact.

A celebration of Scott’s life will be held this summer, with information on that gathering announced at a later date.
