Savoun's obituary
Savoun Sem, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on August 31, 2024, in Gilbert, AZ.
Savoun was born on January 3, 1936, in Battambang, Cambodia. In 1980, he emigrated to the United States as a refugee with his five children. Despite starting with very little, he worked diligently as a cook in a local restaurant in Long Beach, CA. Through perseverance and dedication, Savoun achieved the American dream, eventually opening his own small restaurant specializing in Cambodian cuisine. After decades of hard work, he eventually retired and settled in Gilbert, AZ to be closer to his grandchildren. He was known for his strong work ethic, rarely taking time off, and he instilled this same ethic in his children and grandchildren.
Savoun cherished spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his five children, Sokha Sem, Savath Sem, Phara Soun, Sophal Sem, and Sorn Yang, as well as thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His legacy of hard work and kindness will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 9th at 10 AM at Wat Khmer AZ Cambodian Buddhist Monastery, 24304 S 189th Ave, Buckeye, AZ 85326.
