Sandra's obituary
Sandra Wynne Metzger, 70, of Elmhurst, IL, went home to heaven on February 11th, 2025 after an inspiring fight to live for nearly 4 years with stage IV pancreatic cancer. A service celebrating her life will be held at 3pm on Saturday, March 15th at Oakbrook Community Church in Oakbrook, IL, followed by a visitation and punch-and-cookie reception.
Sandy was a strong woman of faith, trusting in the power of the living God with the strong desire that the gospel of Jesus Christ would go forth. She was extremely dedicated to her family. Her greatest joy was being with her husband, her children and their spouses, and her grandchildren. The weeks before she was ushered into eternity she often said she was experiencing “the best time of her life” as she spent precious moments with family and close friends.
Beloved wife, dedicated mother, energetic “Nonnie,” and cherished sister, Sandy is proceeded in death by her parents and step-dad. She is survived by her husband, Hal, their 7 children, Melissa (Javan) Aldana, Paul (Shannon) Metzger, Mark Metzger, Jerusha (Darin) Stark, Marcy (Jake) Stukenberg, Philip (Rita) Metzger and Michelle (Mike) Hornsby, her 16 grandchildren, Naomi Aldana, Phoebe Aldana, Lydia Aldana, Ruth Aldana, Ethan Aldana, Connor Metzger, Nolan Metzger, Abigail Metzger, Luke Metzger, Roman Stark, Mara Stark, Audrey Stukenberg, Gunnar Stukenberg, Ariana Hornsby, Everly Hornsby, and Odessa Hornsby, and Sandy’s sisters, Doris Howden, Carol (Kerry) Pfund, twin Jessie Gottschall, Joyce Christopherson, and brother Cliff Gottschall.
Sandy’s motto for her life was “Laughter, Love and Lots of Water.” Laughter for the joy of the Lord in her life. Love because of the incredible love of God in her life and His love poured into her heart for others (Rom 5:5). Water because Jesus was her source of Living Water (John 7:37-39) and because of her love of swimming. Until a year ago, Sandy was swimming almost every day, usually a mile a day! Sandy was able to endure the trials of cancer because of her strong faith in Jesus and her motivation to have more time with her loved ones.
