Sandy's obituary
The world lost a bright light when Sandra Alyson Troutman passed away on September 2, 2024 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Sandy was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania on February 20, 1948.
Sandy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 35 years, Bob, as well as her beloved sons Chuck and Chris and her parents Charles and Margaret Pitsch. She is survived by her sister Roberta, daughter Stacie Osborne (Matt), stepdaughter and best friend Vicki Young (Kerry) and stepson Bobby Troutman (Susan), and precious grandchildren Larkyn and Rhys. Sandy treasured her extended family with Bob, including his 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
After graduating from New Castle High School in 1966, she dreamed of being a flight attendant and seeing the world. However, in 1966, one had to be a certain height and Sandy was not tall enough. Determined to live a life of excitement, she went to a U.S. government job fair, and headed off to Washington DC. She became a Protocol Specialist for the U.S. Navy at the Pentagon. At her next job in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, she met the love of her life, Bob. When Bob was offered a job in Columbus, Ohio, her life as a Buckeye began. After the tragic loss of her sons, she began the central Ohio chapter of MADD and was integral to changing laws on blood alcohol levels in drivers. After this, she owned a popular sewing store in Dublin (Linen & Lace), found purpose working at The American Cancer Society, Prevent Child Abuse Columbus, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and finally ending her working years as a much loved cashier at The Hills Market in Worthington. In all her chapters of life, she never stopped advocating for those who needed protection.
Sandy was a friend to anyone she met, having connections almost anywhere she entered. She was known for her creativity, including her quilting, knitting, and scrapbooking projects. She loved taking cruises with her group of best friends, her Ohio State Buckeyes, and supporting local restaurants and shops. But what she loved more than anything was spending time with or talking about her treasured grandkids. She was the most welcoming person, and everyone is better for knowing her.
Family and friends are invited to gather in her memory at a celebration of life on September 21st at 11:00 AM at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Whitney’s Race.
