Background

My mother recently turned 60 she had battled medical problems for the last six years following a double heart valve replacement in January 2016, though she had underlining problems contributing to her health at that time they were not considered life-threatening. She had been admitted in and out of nursing facilities for rehabilitation since her discharge but her most recent stay she encountered COVID-19 and since then she has not recovered fully. Her health was Considerably good for what she had been thru. After the valve transplant she was put on a ventilator an ECMO life-support machine had dialysis several internal and external drain pumps and also external and internal pacemaker. Doctors gave her a 1% chance of survival , which she overcame it all but she was confined to a wheelchair. Ultimately we were blessed with her coming home and being able to spend time with her children, grandchildren and husband, she was living her new normal life up until her COVID diagnosis . She was released back home after a short stay in a local nursing facility ,where she was only admitted for physical rehab to gain strength back after a short infection caused by a UTI . Over the next couple months she slowly lost her strength to make it to her wheelchair which was no defeat before , after several visits to the hospital she was unable to fight off and keep away infection since having Covid. On January 5th we sat with her and agreed that for her safety ultimately future plans were to go back to a facility and work on strength building so she could be safe at home but she passed in her sleep that evening before she was transferred . With her health condition so poorly at such a young age we were unable to purchase life insurance since she had not had any illnesses before valve replacement. The only assistance the county offers is for deceased that have been cremated and with Sandra‘s only wish being that she not be cremated this was not an option and even if so there was only pennies toward the finalized bill that would be covered. So looking into Covid grants there has to be a direct cause of death being that on the death certificate which cannot be ruled as the cause without an autopsy which could not be afforded. There is no indirect or direct proof that Covid was the ultimate cause but there is proof it was a contributing factor with positive test results and illnesses substained after contracting the virus. Unfortunately her husband is currently awaiting a hip replacement and unable to work and her funeral expenses have left him with no other option but to reach out and hope somebody understanding his situation will have the kindness to help. Every little thing attributed even if being only kind words, financial assistance or just giving ideas in other ways to help are greatly appreciated. Sandy never asked for help and hated being reliant on others. Her family was her life as was she theirs. God bless and thanks for reading our story. Contribute   Right arrow
