Sandra Ann Flake Kitching, 84 of Swansea South Carolina, wife of the late William M. Kitching, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Hagerstown, Maryland.
She was born on September 25, 1936, in Swansea, South Carolina the daughter of the late Jackson Lee Flake Sr, and Lillian Ziegler Flake.. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and was a member of the National Phi Beta Kappa Society. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and puzzles.
She also dearly loved animals. Besides having multiple dogs throughout her life she used to catch local feral cats, pay to have them spayed or neutered and then release them. She took in /rescued several stray dogs as well. She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie L. Gallant (Jason) of Hagerstown MD, Lianne K. Meilhac (Thierry Wernaers) of Concord NC, brothers, Jackson Lee “Chippy” Flake Jr (Lucie) of Goose Creek, SC, and Charles Jerry Flake (Lois) of Batesburg SC, three granddaughters, Alexa R. Meilhac of Roanoke, VA, Julia C. Thompson of Orlando, FL and Emily K. Thompson of Hagerstown, MD, and one grandson, Ryan P. McGinnis of Richmond, VA.
There will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Washington County, your own local Hospice, the Alzheimer’s Association or the Humane Society.
