Sandra's obituary

Sandra Jean Edwards, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 in Pearland, Texas.

Born October 29, 1945 in Bloomington, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marietta (Mapes) Martin. She spent her young life in Bloomington-Normal, and attended Bloomington High School and Illinois State University.

Sandra married the love of her life, John C. Edwards in 1970 and was a long time resident of Aurora/Plainfield, Illinois, where she taught sixth grade in Plainfield District #202 for almost 30 years. She retired to Thayer, Missouri in 1998, and most recently to Cushing, Texas in 2014.

Besides her family, Sandra loved singing and helping others. She was a passionate teacher and had a heart for helping her students develop confidence and a love for learning. She was an avid singer and member of Sweet Adelines International where she sang a mighty bass for several choruses over the years (Midwest Crossroad in Joliet, IL, Ozark Showcase in Springfield, MO, Houston Horizon in Houston, TX, and most recently Heart of the Pines in Nacogdoches, TX). In addition to these passions, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading romance novels, watching Hallmark channel movies and HGTV, and going to the beach. She also really enjoyed meeting and talking to new people. She never met a stranger and had an infectious smile!

Sandra is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, John Charles Edwards; her daughter and son-in-law Rebecca (Edwards) Rangel and Paul Gregory Rangel of Richmond, TX; her brother and sister-in-law Steven and Georgia Martin of Bloomington, IL; and several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Marietta Martin; and her sister and brother-in-law Sherrilyn and Roger Taylor.

The family is choosing to not have a service at this time, but a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a memorial donation can choose one of the non-profits she was so passionate about- Sweet Adelines International & Young Singers Foundation. www.sweetadelines.com.
