Sandra Kay Disque King, Sandy to her friends and family, shuffled off this mortal coil April 25, 2020. She was born prematurely, weighing in at barely three pounds on July 2, 1947 to Gladys and William Raymond “Ray” Disque in Murray Kentucky. At the age of two, her family decided to move to Michigan. Fate had a different plan as their car broke down in Ft. Wayne, Indiana where they would settle. Sandra would eventually attend Elmhurst High School and become a talented flautist, graduating in 1965. She went on to attend Indiana University graduating with a master’s degree in education. In 1969, she married Jerry King. They both settled into life as teachers and welcomed a daughter, Rebecca, and son, Ian, into the world in the 1970’s. As the economy of northern Indiana went south in the mid 80’s, so did the King Family, relocating to Texas. Sandy would spend the next thirty years teaching elementary school in central Texas for a grand total of 45 years as an elementary educator. Sandy was an lifelong lover of animals, fostering stray cats and dogs throughout her life. She was also a passionate lover of books, typically reading two or three novels at any given moment. Sandra is survived by Jerry, her devoted husband of 50 years; her children Rebecca and Ian and their spouses, Adrian and Mary; her beloved grandchildren Josephine, Grayson and Morgan; and her brother Don. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Gladys and Raymond Disque. A celebration of Sandy’s life will be scheduled in the near future when social distancing protocols are no longer necessary.
