Background
As Sandra says on her 59 North travel blog: There are two things you need to know about me: 1). I love to travel. 2). I love to write.
In the spirit of our beloved Sandra, the Sandra Carpenter Memorial Fund aims to lift up promising Ohio women writers who want to explore the world and write.
Our inaugural scholarship will sponsor a woman writer who is on the path to publishing a book. It will fund her participation at the Stockholm Writers Festival (https://stockholmwritersfestival.com) which assists writers in developing the skills and business knowhow essential to navigate the world of publishing, while fostering an ever-expanding community of international writers. Sandra Carpenter was an early supporter of the festival and a board member; the scholarship is a collaboration between her Stockholm and Cincinnati communities.
The hope is that this international professional experience will support an Ohio woman writer in the development and publication of her manuscript; deepen her interest in international travel and writing; and promote the possibility of living abroad.
The Sandra Carpenter Memorial Fund will expand its reach over time, lifting up women writers as Sandra did throughout her career and lifetime.
