Sandra's obituary
Sandy Aneda
Sandra (Garrett) Aneda, 75, of Colorado Springs, CO passed away suddenly on January 7, 2025 at Penrose Hospital, Colorado Springs.
Sandy was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on April 19, 1949, the daughter of Oshal and Elise (Nonnenmacher) Garrett. She attended Seekonk High School in Massachusetts. She is survived by her husband Barry of 55 years, her son Barry Aneda, Jr. and Anthony Box-Aneda of New South Wales, Australia and her daughter, Darlene (Aneda) and Stephen O’Hearn of Colorado Springs, CO.
“Our #1 Grandma” leaves behind the 3 shining lights of her life, her grandchildren, Sean, Megan and Ryan O’Hearn of Colorado Springs, CO. She also leaves behind her siblings: Cliff Garrett and his wife Joanne of Cranston, RI, Paula (Garrett) and her husband Alan Brousseau of Warwick, RI, Susan (Garrett) Hamlin of Coventry, RI, Bart Garrett and his wife Cheryl of Warwick, RI, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oshal and Elise (Nonnenmacher) Garrett, her sister Christine Ward of Coventry, RI and her sister Catherine Brown and husband Donald of Warwick, RI.
Barry & Sandy married in 1969 and settled in North Kingstown, RI to raise their family. In 2006, they moved to Colorado Springs, CO to be with their daughter and grandchildren. Sandy and Barry were a team and their relationship withstood the test of time. They were soulmates, best friends, caregivers, co-adventurers, partners in crime and both were always up for a great time. Sandy loved nothing better than riding behind Barry on his motorcycle and an afternoon riding the roads often led them to the casinos where she loved video poker and was a pro at getting those free drinks. They became avid travelers and anyone who knew her can attest to her love of Hawaii. She was a fan of karaoke and absolutely loved singing country songs, the old country music– from “Back in the Day” not the modern stuff!! She even came in 2nd, two times in karaoke contests!!
Sandy was a devoted mom who strived hard to instill strong values and confidence in her kids. She was the proud mother of 2 accomplished adults, Barry, Jr. and Darlene, and loved nothing better than spending time with her kids, whether in the Springs, Hawaii or on the other side of the globe in Australia.
She lived for her grandchildren and their passions – Sean’s love of all things Disney and the theater, Megan’s enthusiasm for theater and cosplay and Ryan’s budding baseball career. “Hit one for Grandma” was a call-to-action Ryan strived for at every game.
No one loved a party more than Sandy! She arrived early, set up, partied all night and stayed to do the clean-up. Sandy was a proud member of the Pikes Peak Pats, a New England Patriots Football Fan Club and showed up for every event held by the PPP! She was a loyal and vocal fan of the Patriots and Tom Brady and considers Tom the only other man in her life (with Barry’s permission, of course). Sandy loved her nutcrackers and birdhouses and was a prolific reader and an accomplished crossword puzzler (although she used Google to keep her reputation up!)
She never met a stranger. Her innate kindness and friendliness opened hearts wherever she went. She never missed a sporting event, play, party, birthday or any get together where she added her wit and personality to each occasion. To say she will be sorely missed by her family and large circle of friends is an understatement. Thank you for a lifetime of memories, Sandy, (aka Grandma.) That loud laugh and impish grin will echo in the room now but don’t worry, we’ll always keep your spirit alive!
