Samuel's obituary
Samuel Tahay passed away at the age of 70 on February 15th, 2021, in Portland, Oregon, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Though his diagnosis came only weeks before his passing, Samuel faced his illness with quiet strength and grace.
He was lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Teresa G. Gramajo de Tahay, who stood by his side until her own passing from cancer some time later.
Samuel’s heart lives on through his cherished children, Samuel J. and Anna Liz, his dear son-in-law Ruben, and his four precious grandchildren who brought him endless joy.
Samuel also leaves behind three beloved siblings and a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins across the US and Guatemala, all of whom hold his memory close.
A dedicated educator and leader, Samuel’s life was marked by meaningful service. He began his journey as a teacher and principal in Guatemala, touching countless lives with his kindness and wisdom. Later, he answered a heartfelt calling as a Seventh-day Adventist minister in Oregon, where he continued to serve local churches with unwavering devotion—even after retirement.
Samuel’s greatest happiness came from traveling, lending a helping hand to his community, and most of all, spending treasured moments with his family, whom he loved deeply.
His warmth, generosity, and faith leave a lasting legacy. He is profoundly missed and forever held in the hearts of all who knew him.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
2 Timothy 4:7-8 NIV
