Samuel's obituary
On January 15, 2025, Sam lost his battle with early on-set Alzheimer’s—a rare, genetic form of this neurodegenerative disease, which he was diagnosed with at age 57. He fought to hold onto precious memories for 13 years, bringing joy and humor to everyone around him, even on his hardest days.
He was a lover of astronomy and a reciter of poetry, a student of all religions, and a critic of societal norms. Equal parts eloquent writer and cruncher of numbers, Sam had the rare kind of mind that could balance logic with creativity. His interests were many and passions were plenty, but above all he cherished his family. He was our calming force, the logical voice, a source of comic relief. While his absence has left a void in our hearts, his legacy will live on through the stories we all keep in our pockets—ones that made us laugh or feel special. He gave so much of himself to all of us, may we carry that forward.
