Samuel's obituary

Samuel Murillo was called home by our Heavenly Father to rest in eternal peace on March 15, 2025. He was born on May 26, 1953 in El Paso, Texas.

Sam retired in January, 2023, from The Optimum Capital Funding Group. He was very passionate about helping small businesses and individuals fulfill their goals and aspirations as they began their own businesses. Previously, he was a senior litigation analyst for 22 years at Allstate Insurance, and prior to that, Prudential Insurance. He began his first career at United Methodist Communications after receiving his Master’s Degree in Theology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, which then brought him to Nashville.

Being the son of a Methodist minister, Sam was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church. He was an active member at Belmont United Methodist, Brentwood United Methodist and for the last 22 years at Christ United Methodist Church in Franklin, Tennessee where he has chaired the Stewardship Committee and most recently serving as the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) Chairman.

Sam also tirelessly served and devoted many hours of service to the church’s prison ministry and served on the board of Christian Home Ministries, a home and haven for returning citizens to live and work after prison.  He was always sharing the love of Christ and hope to the ones who needed it the most.

His parents, Rev. Jose Murillo and Enriqueta Murillo preceded him in death,  but are now rejoicing in their reunion.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Susan Mong Murillo; a daughter, Jessica Murillo Vaughn;  a son, Jared Ross Murillo; and two precious grandchildren, Samuel Sutton and Emerson James Vaughn.

Thank you for leaving us your greatest legacy, a belief that God is always there for us no matter what the circumstance. Dad, thank you for instilling in us the value of hard work and compassion for helping those around us, for showing us what it meant to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Your memory will live on forever in the lives of your grandchildren. Papa, thank you for teaching us the importance of having fun in our lives. You were always willing to give up your time in a pinch to be with us, to share your time with us in play and laughter. No matter what the activity or the game, you were in the middle of it.

You will be greatly missed by your brother and sister, Benjamin Murillo and Dina Murillo Acevedo (Rick), your nephews and nieces and your many cousins.

Family and friends are invited to join us for Sam’s Celebration of Life Service on May 3, 2025, at Christ United  Methodist Church located at 508 Franklin Road, Franklin, Tennessee 37069. Visitation will begin at 1:00p.m.  followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. Floral arrangements may be sent to the church directly, or memorial donations for the prison ministry can also be made to the church. Rev. Chris Haynes and Rev. Mark Price will officiate.
