Samuel's obituary
Samuel DiGeronimo, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 10th, 2024, at Monmouth Medical Center surrounded by the love of his family at the age of 84.
Samuel was born in Newark on July 20th, 1939 to the late Mildred Santaniello and Samuel DiGeronimo. He grew up a Newark resident, where he was raised with his brother, Anthony DiGeronimo.
Samuel married his beloved wife, Lenore DiGeronimo and the couple settled in Union where they raised their sons. Sam was a wonderful father, husband, and grandfather that loved his family more than anything.
Samuel had a diverse career; serving first in the Navy for four years and eventually leaving with an honorable discharge. Following his service, he opened a hair salon in Kenilworth, New Jersey followed by a long career in car sales & financing until his retirement. If you knew Sam, you knew he loved the presence of others and loved to talk with everyone.
After retiring, Samuel and Lenore moved to Warren and then to Somerset, while still enjoying their winters in Florida. They loved spending time with their family and friends. Quality time was usually spent over food; Samuel always enjoyed cooking just as much as the many friends he shared his meals with. Samuel was a dedicated Giants fan and season ticket holder, where he enjoyed bringing his grandchildren to tailgates on Sunday’s. Aside from watching the Giants, Samuel enjoyed attending horse races with his friends, and spending time on the golf course.
After the passing of his beloved wife, Lenore; Samuel moved to Long Branch, New Jersey and if you knew Sam you know he would be spending his mornings outside of the Turning Point having his coffee talking to whomever came by. And of course hanging out with friends at Rooney's. But never too far from his roots, Sam also cherished his monthly lunches with his old time friends from Newark, where they enjoyed reminiscing and exchanging stories about the good old days.
In addition to his parents Samuel is predeceased by his beloved wife Lenore DiGeronimo (nee: Tedeschi), and brother Anthony DiGeronimo. He is survived by his two sons and their wives; Darren DiGeronimo and his wife Patricia; his cherished grandchildren Derek and Brianna DiGeronimo, cousins and dear friends.
Samuel will be deeply missed by his entire family and friends.
The funeral /memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, January 23rd at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Union, New Jersey at 10:15 followed by the entombment at Hollywood Cemetery in Union.
