Samir's obituary

Samir Salim Beida, 82, of North Fort Myers Florida passed away with his son by his side on Sunday, March 28th at 7 p.m. after a much too short battle with lung cancer. He spent his last few days at the Hope Hospice House in Cape Coral surrounded by family.

Samir was a proud father to son, Mark, and devoted grandfather to Carson and Julia, who he loved dearly. He will be greatly missed by his girlfriend, Linda, with whom he shared the last 30 years as well as his daughter-in-law, Lisa.

Samir was born March 12, 1939 in Jerusalem, Palestine. At the age of 20, he left his home country to pursue a better education in the US. He studied at Fordham University, while taking a job as a messenger during the United Nations General Assembly. Samir went on to spend his 35-year career working at UNICEF / United Nations, rising from the mail room to an executive position as the Chief of Operations for the Greeting Card division.

Sam excelled at all of his hobbies. He was an avid golfer for the past 30 years and was a superb soccer and ping pong player earlier in life. He was a great chef and enjoyed cooking for family, friends, and large gatherings of neighbors. He loved gardening, trout fishing, and playing poker. His many golf buddies and weekly card game friends will miss his kind-hearted competitiveness.

Samir will always be remembered for his generosity, warmth, and strong family values.

Samir is survived by Linda, his son Mark, daughter-in-law, Lisa, grandchildren Carson and Julia, siblings Khalil (and sister-in-law, Taghreid), Hassan, Lamees, Hayfa, Wafa, Hanie, Sami, Hana and Mark’s mother, Shaaron.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Hope Hospice where Samir spent his last days, https://hopehcs.org/donate/, or the Lung Cancer Research Foundation, https://www.lungcancerresearc….
