Ryan's obituary
Ryan Raymond Sheets, born July 28, 1987, to Kenneth and Jean Sheets, in Fort Wayne, Indiana—passed away suddenly on February 2nd, 2026, at the age of 38, at his home in Louisville, KY, leaving behind a constellation of people who loved him deeply and will forever miss his sharp mind, quick wit, and unmistakable presence.
Ryan was a man of wide-ranging curiosities and formidable intelligence. He worked in Information Technology for over 20 years, drawn to the elegant puzzles and relentless problem-solving the field demanded. He had a gift for understanding complex systems—and, occasionally, for explaining them with a raised eyebrow and a perfectly timed remark.
He loved music and karaoke (whether the audience was ready or not), cool cars—especially Mustangs—writing, rollercoasters (he was the ultimate thrill seeker), and the art of creating truly memorable meals. His culinary creations were less about recipes and more about instinct, experimentation, and joy. Above all else, Ryan loved his sons, Gideon and Magnus, with a devotion that shaped his life and defined his heart.
Ryan is survived by his parents, Kenneth W. and Jean C. Sheets; his beloved sons, Gideon and Magnus; his brothers, Clayton Jet Sheets (Tara) of La Jolla, California, and Tom Sheets of Lakewood, Colorado; his sisters, Sara O’Bryan (Cody) of Benton, Arkansas, and Dawn Byler (Scott) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and his nephews, Aidan, Conner, and Bonham. He is also survived by lots and lots of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends—an abundance he would have appreciated.
Ryan’s life, though far too short, was vivid and meaningful. His absence leaves a quiet that feels unfamiliar and unfair, but his humor, intelligence, and love—especially the love he poured into his sons—remain enduring and unmistakable.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Fort Wayne, where family and friends will gather to remember Ryan in the way he would have preferred: with stories, laughter, and love.
He will be missed beyond measure.
