Ryan's obituary
Ryan Lane Montgomery was born to Russ and Char (Geiger) Montgomery on October 11, 1960, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Ryan grew up next to his cousins and older sister Rhonda, enjoying sports and all that the Midwest had to offer. Ryan’s youth made him an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and even worked for the forestry service as a tree planter in Montana. There was never a challenge too big or too small for Ryan.
In addition to being an adventurer, Ryan was also a father. This was perhaps the greatest adventure of his life and the one job he was most proud of.
Ryan’s marriage to Jane Montgomery of Marengo produced two sons, Zach and Ian Montgomery. Zach (26) lives with his family, Maritza and their daughter Ava Char in Poplar Grove, Illinois. Ian (22) resides in Marengo, Illinois.
The second half of Ryan’s adult life was spent married to Heather (Crain) Montgomery. Their children include sons Paris Crain-Montgomery (12) and London Crain-Montgomery (13), daughter Belinda Crain-Montgomery (19), and a bonus daughter Cameron Carignan (30), all of Republic, Missouri. Ryan’s grandchildren also includes granddaughter Helena Haney (4), also of Republic.
Ryan was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Montgomery of Marion, Iowa and his mother Charlene Cordes of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Ryan is survived by his children, grandchildren, sister Rhonda (Steve) Juehring of Marion, Iowa and their children. In addition, Ryan is remembered and held close by many friends and friends that became family over the years. He is also missed by his bull, Ed, who currently resides in Everton, Missouri. Ryan was one of the best bovine daddies the world had seen.
Ryan quietly slipped away from this world on July 9, 2023. There were 62 years, 9 months, 5 days of brilliance shared during that time. True to his astrological sign of Libra, he was an extrovert to the very end. When Ryan loved someone, he loved them with his entire heart. There was no halfway with him. A hopeless romantic, loving father, and dedicated partner is how Ryan should be remembered.
A Celebration of Ryan’s Life will be held for his birthday, at a place yet to be determined. Advance notice will be given, and we encourage all those who knew and loved Ryan to attend. His ashes will be spread by his children, per his wishes, at a future time.
